New Instrumental Track: This one's for you, Goose
Hey everybody! Hope you're enjoying your Saturday. I originally started this track because I wanted to do something inspired by the soundtrack to "Nightcrawler", which I think is a great score. Once I got started, though, it took a decidedly 80's turn :). Sometimes I just can't help myself. I had a little trouble getting the balance right with the bass, so any feedback there (or on anything else) is welcome. Perhaps it's an EQ issue, but I'm always finding my bass mixing very susceptible to changes in monitoring volume. Some of that I know is normal, but any tips for more consistent bass levels from system to system would be especially valued. Anyway, I hope you enjoy, and thanks for listening! https://soundcloud.com/mi...his-ones-for-you-goose

Sounds like quite a nice tune, but for me it sounds a little lacking in air, there does not appear to be anything in the top end. Thanks for sharing.

Cool tune... very laid back, slowly changing, but interesting. Nice combination of guitar melody laid over top. Mix-wise everything is clear, but I do agree with Wookie that there's just a bit of "sheen" missing that could compliment what you already have.

it's definitely a Vangelis thing I'm hearing, only with some guitars - very cool. For the bass, I thought it was a little too present for what you were trying to do. I agree bass is the hardest thing to mix. A few ideas? Did you try rolling off with a high pass eq? You might lose everything below 40hz safely and not miss a thing. Perhaps higher. Did you compress the crap out of it? If so back it down on the make-up gain just a hair, see if you like it. If your eq plug-in has anything like a "sweepable band" you can hear particular frequency ranges in isolation (just 200 - 220 hz, for example) and you can find a boomy frequency in you bass, then notch out a dip in the eq at that point. After your song played on Soundcloud, mine came up (Do You Like People) and I think my own bass on that song is just a bit too present. There is apparently a difference between offering mixing advice, and following it. :) nice tune, thanks for the share! cheers, -Tom

Hey all, Thanks for listening and for the thoughtful feedback. Now that you mention it, I agree with the top-end comment. Guess I was a little too worried about the bass :) As to that, I had rolled off a bit of the bass down low, but I could've been more aggressive. My listening environment is...shall we say, not ideal? NYC apartment. So I have to go back and forth between my monitors and headphones (which are pretty good) and make a guess. I guess we're all just guessing, huh? Cheers, Mike

Interesting tune. I like the evolution it goes through. I agree that bass is a bit in front. It may be that just a bot of work on the basses EQ would sort this out. I also agree with the others that you need a bit of air in this something to give it sparkle. Nice piece though pleasant to listen to.

Maybe it's up front, but it's a great bass sound, really really like it. Love the tune as well. At first I thought it was going to break in to Chariots of Fire, lol. Nice work and thanks for sharing it!
