New MOTU 64 bit drivers!
I saw a post in the computer section of the forum advising the release of new drivers across the board for MOTU products. I downloaded the ones for my MOTU 24 io. WOW! Using X1c on an Asus, Windows 7, 64 bit, 12 gigs Ram, I got the latency down to 32 samples in ASIO mode! That's a little over 1 ms. latency. That was just using smaller CPU hungry plugs that came with Sonar. When I inserted hungrier ones like Perfect Space, VC64, GTR 4,Amplitube3, etc. I only had to bump it up to 64 samples. About 2.8 ms. That was running a project with about 26 tracks and loads of plugs. This driver seems to be the one we all have waited for in the MOTU kingdom, anyway. Check it out over at the MOTU site.

The past 18 months or so, MOTU has really made an effort to improve their Win7x64 drivers. They're doing great... and have addressed many issues (lowered the round-trip latency back to original 5.5ms for non mkIII Firewire units, etc). I wish they'd re-instate the 32-sample ASIO buffer size for Firewire units. As you mentioned, we now have machines capable of effectively working at a 32-sample ASIO buffer size.

One of these days I'll have to update my 324 to a 424... *sigh* $295 to support a 2408 mk 2 so I can use a newer operating system. Oh well, good to hear they are actively supporting these drivers.

That sounds good. I was thinking of getting the MOTU express usb 6x6 to replace my Delta 44 which has worked fine with the 64bit driver. Do you think I would notice a difference? Im getting a little tired of the routing features of M-audio but want something just as stable.

No kidding. I just updated to the new drivers for the MK2 and loaded up the most stressful project I have and its happily playing at 128 samples at 24/96 with zero glitches and my CPU at about 28%. 64 samples at 16/44 (0.7 msec) also seems fine. Nice to know that I have that much CPU headroom even at 1.3 msec. I won't need an upgrade for at least a few years to go. This is on a Core I7 950 rig.

The new MOTU drivers seem to have an issue with my system. Now I have to change buffer settings between projects which I didn't have to do before or I get dropouts and major clicks. I think I may have to revert to the previous drivers which doesn't make me happy.

I just installed the driver, things seem to play fine so far, using the 828mkII there appears to be remnants of the old drivers about as I find thinks like the old cue mix console and such listed in the program list. And I have had to reassignt the out of of windows media player, perhaps other things yet to be discovered. All the is fine, one thing troubling me is when the Cuemix window is open a portion of it bleeds over the top of Sonar focing me to close the cuemix window if I want to see the Sonar screen. Perhaps someone knows how to defeat this?

The obvious came to me, and I uninstalled all the MOTU drivers and reinstalled the new one. Looking forward to smooth sailing. still have a bit of a visual hangover if I simply change focus from the cuemix window to Sonar (or anything else for that matter) but minimizing the cuemix cleans it right up. I can live with that.
