New Mix - Surrender (Update May 24)

Here's one of the rough mixes for a band I've been working with. I'd appreciate it if anyone could give me some feedback.

Thanks everyone,

Brandon

It sounds very different from the Cheap Trick version.

I can't comment much on the production because I am listening on crappy speakers (but the production sounded good).

I guess the only thing that I might critique is the vocals, which were sometimes a little out of key. It didn't bother me much with the lead, but sometimes a little bit with the background vocals.

On the other hand, I think this is an area where a lot of people think authenticity is more important than perfect pitch.

    Nice job and nice song.

    Hi Jeff,

Thanks for listening. I will try to work a little on the pitch of the lead and background vocals and see if I can get it tweaked right without making it sound like Cher. If you get a chance to listen on some good speakers, let me know what you think about the kick. I think it may be a little too bassy...I'm going to try to mess with this soon. Thanks for your help!

Nice song and nice mix - although the latter needs to be taken with a grain of salt as I only just listened to the song on my headphones at work. My only critique would be that I'd like to hear the background vocals a bit more. They seem to get lost. Other than that I like the song. It's got a nice melody, it's simple and the instrumentation sounds good.

    rodman,

Thanks for your critique. I will take this into account when I remix. I might try a little more complementary EQ around 3 and 4k and see if that brings them out a little more. If that doesn't I'll bump them a decibel or 2 and get them up there and see what I am working with.

    Hi guys,

I finally finished out this mix. If you get a chance, listen to the new one and see if you think the mentioned problems from before were fixed. I slaved over the song for several hours trying to get it all sounding good. Let me know what you think. The new file is at:
