New PC Time

Well I got my PC working finally so I figure I'd better drop in and say I may be gone till I can buy a new one (PC). I need to research which PC/ Audio Interface to get. If I could sing I would sing Happy Trails till we meet again

Thank you for your support!

So you got your PC working and you also want to buy new one?

For the audio interface, I highly recommend Focusrite's products......very good, very easy to setup, very solid drivers. I'm very happy with my 2i4......verily.

Thanks Mesh and James! I was thinking Focusrite Scarlet but I need midi i/o and it didn't have it. Since I can't talk or sing any more I don't need many inputs. I have mics for acoustic guitars.  2 in/out input minimum

Sonar support also suggested Focusrite

P.S. this PC is barely working and I don't know if it will last the day
I managed to get it rebooted

Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 has MIDI in/out (on the rear) and 2 inputs (on the front) which are either 1/4 jack or mic.

we have a saying at home.  "he's so pretty"

it comes from an episode of Friends where Rachel tells that to Joey when he's having a particular "Joey" moment.  We use it at home mostly for our dog.  He's very pretty, but not so smart.  We usually say "he's so pretty" instead of saying "stupid dog" when he does something particularly "Joey"

yes...that Focusrite is very pretty.

I had one and really didn't like it.  but I know a LOT of people do have them and do like them.  I have issues with their gain stage on the amps and won't use one again unless I can be convinced they've redesigned the circuit to fix that issue.

lots of people will disagree with me - that's OK.

but IMO - they're very pretty!

I have several avenues to pursue. I can have one built in town, I can go with another Dell. The XPS 8900 is what I was checking out. Then there is my first choice with the pro studio at studio cat but I had problems with paypal

I recently bought Steinberg's UR-22 MKII which was a bit cheaper than the equivalent Focusrite product.
Very pleased with it, great sound, no problems so far, very solid build.

CuBase, Ableton, Steinberg UR-22 MKII, i7-4790K 4.00 Ghz, 32Gb Corsair Vengeance Pro RAM, Windows 10.

+1 on building your own PC

1) You have compete control of what goes in your machine
2) You get to select better suited hardware for DAW's than the generic off the shelf
3) You get plenty of knowledgeable people in here to help (if needed)
4) You get the satisfaction that this your "baby" :)

If I can build one, ANYONE can!!

This is a great place to get parts and IIRC, they also show if parts are compatible: https://pcpartpicker.com/parts/partlist/

I didn't build my DAW but I've built 2 other general purpose desktop pc's - one of them has never let me down since the day I powered it up, and I believe the other one (a gift) is still running faithfully.

One major drawback for me is I can't talk. The phone isn't any help for advice or direction.
There is a local vendor here in town begging me to give him a shot.

Mesh - How much difference in price than you buying one? How much did you save?

I started out with a budget of $1200, but ended up spending $1500. The reason being, I kind of went all out....I wanted a gaming DAW and had to spend the extra $$ for a good graphics card, new monitor, SSD drive, and lots of minor accessories on hardware.....(the Mrs. wasn't happy about this extra expense, but I wanted a machine that was SOLID and not worry about replacing the machine for at least 4-6 years).

I've had this build since the summer of 2013 and I'm still impressed with its performance......no issues whatsoever.
I had been saving for a good year to get this and didn't get the "latest/greatest" hardware.....I just checked the specs on what a lot of folks in here had and asked a lot of questions in the Computer forum before buying anything. The good thing for me was getting everything from Newegg where I signed up for their Preferred Account......and had 1 year to pay it without any interest adding up.

Now, your case may not be this as your requirements will be different than mine and also the pricing will depend on which components you choose. I don't know what your budget is, but the good thing about building your PC is.....the hardware will all be hand selected by YOU, and will be specific to your needs. You'll have to do a little research on the components and put up your virtual build on the Computer Forum (the Pro's will give some great advice). The actual build will be a lot of fun (at least for me it was). :))

Although "off the shelf" PC's look shiny/good and all ready to go, they do use cheaper/inferior products (+ bloatware) geared at general public uses. At the time of my build, I didn't want to hassle with troubleshooting hardware problems or deal with the headaches that some people were complaining about.......so, I chose to build mine. So far, I'm very happy with my decision.

It wasn't the expense, but the fact that you sold one of your kids to cover the expense...
(Saying "But we have so many and we can always make more!" probably didn't help either.)

You are welcome to come over and slum it out ... plenty of computers!

Music is not about notes and chords! My poem is not about the computer or monitor or letters! It's about how I was able to translate it from my insides!
