New Plugin Not Showing Up
I just bought the NI Replica XT Delay, installed it, but am not seeing the plugin in the menu. I got in touch with NI and they told me everything installed fine ... they seem to think the problem is with sonar X3. I did verify the presence of a .dll file right about where you'd think it should be. Still can't see the plugin when I do a re-scan. I also pointed the plugin manager directly to this .dll file and still not showing up. Has anybody experienced anything like this before? It's a real bummer to spend one hundred dollars on a delay and they, a week later, still not be able to use it. I keep being told by people that is the problem of the other vendors involved ... but when everybody is saying that ... I use a dell laptop 5000 series with Sonar X3 professional. Soundcard is a focusrite scarlett 18i20. Help. Thanks.

Do you have a custom plugin layout?

I doubt it since I don't even know what you are referring to. Lol. Here's where it installed. C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\NativeInstruments\ReplicaXT\ As far as I know everything is stock with my install.

I've used Replica (not XT) with Sonar X3 without a problem. Try pointing the plugin scan to this folder: c:\program files\native instruments\vstplugins 64 bit\
I'm off to see the Wibble, the wonderful Wibble of Wobble

When you say you can't find the plugin, I guess you're right clicking in an fx rack or pro channel fx chain to insert it, right? There's a submenu in that menu that says "plugin layouts". It sounds like you're using the default but it's worth checking.

yeah have to make sure that directory is your VST scan. I created a VST folder on one of my SSD drives and everything goes into there (VST wise anyway) just to keep it easy.

Thanks. Yes. I scanned that path. Mine looks a little different. It's: C:\Program Files\Native Instruments\Replika XT\D3D\x64 But that isn't doing it for some reason. The tech at NI had me install some scanning software that verifyed the installation of the plugin and all its assets. He said everything was in the correct spot, but that they couldn't say why it wasn't showing up. He urged me to ask the question here in the forum or take it up with Cakewalk Tech Support ... I wonder if tech support even still deals with the lowly X3 stalwarts?
Here's a list of my plugin scan paths. Anybody see anything goofy? C:\program files\cakewalk\ C:\program files\cakewalk\vstplugins C:\program files\nativeinstruments\ C:\program files\nativeinstruments\replika xt\d3d\x64 C:\program files\vstplugins

Try moving the dll to C:\program files\vstplugins and see what happens.

Absolutely For sure C:\program files\cakewalk\ and C:\program files\nativeinstruments\ should never be in the scan path. These paths contain much more than plug-in dlls that will play havoc with the VST scanner. I do not have Replika XT but would be very surprised if the NI installers expect you to use "C:\program files\nativeinstruments\replika xt\d3d\x64" as the location for the installed dll. While the plug-in dll may be in that folder, if Replika XT works like every other NI plug-in I have seen the dll is installed in a VST folder too.

SCOOK: Great info. I think I had manually inserted those two bad paths when this issue cropped up before with some focusrite plugins. I will remove those two paths and see if that helps. I doubt it though since, even set up like that, it tends to find everything I have with the exception of the new NI Delay. MARIO: Great idea ... I was just hatching a similar idea myself ... I thought maybe move the .dll into another folder where it is know to find these things and then do a re-scan ... but it didn't help. I was bummed. Great idea though ... thanks. Tonight when I get home from work I will try to remove those two paths scook was talking about. Maybe eventually I can use this thing I paid a hundred bucks for ... Thanks everyone.

I've had plugins that didn't display where I expected to see their names in the FX menu. Have you looked around to see if it got put in the wrong folder?
A few of my songs SONAR Platinum, Cakewalk by BandLab, Windows 10, Focusrite Scarlett 6i6.

Got my scan list revised to this: C:\program files\cakewalk\SharedPlugins C:\program files\cakewalk\Vstplugins C:\program files\Vstplugins
I also checked to see if the plugin was turning up underneath a strange menu or location and all of this unfortunately did not help. It's almost like the plugin just will not be recognized. I have also copied the .dll file for the Replica XT delay and placed in C:\program files\cakewalk\SharedPlugins so, now there are two of them in circulation. I was checking to see if scan would pick it up better located somewhere else. Sombody was saying they didnt think NI would put .dll files here: C:\program files\nativeinstruments\replika xt\d3d\x64 That may be true. In that location what I see are these files: d3dcompiler_47.dll and qtANGLE.dll Not sure what those are, but that is why I had that custom scan path. But the location of my file called Replika XT.dll is here: C:\program files\cakewalk\Vstplugins Anybody see anything fishy. Still no delay ... and this is a cool delay ...

if this is really "C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Shared Plugins" where the Sonitus plug-ins are install, this path should not be in the VST scan path and user VST2 plug-ins should not be placed in this folder. All the plug-ins installed in this folder by Cakewalk are DX format.

That makes sense ... I'm just literally throwing everything at the wall to see what works. I can remove that, which is probably just a good housekeeping tip for sure, but I doubt that is gonna make the delay turn up. All I can think to do is unistall it and try re-installing it ... I really don't care anymore though ... I'm about done with all this nonsense ...I'm out a hundred bucks and NI is laughin all the way to the bank ... do they care? Maybe, but it doesn't show ... they tell me to take it up with cakewalk. Can I get my money back? Won't they just say that since I already downloaded the program files that I am feasibly just stealing it? This is another loophole of the software as recording studio approach ... what is our recourse if nothing works? I'm a musician not a computer technician for god's sake ... I write pretty songs ... that's what I do ... or, try to ... well screw me and my songs. What I really am is a dude who posts problems in a forum ... that's my real gig!

Have you tried looking for it in the complete list of plugins in the Plugin Manager (i.e. select "VST audio effects" and then look in the list of registered plugins on the right? At least this would rule out whether or not it's somehow located in an unexpected place in your plugin menu.

Uninstalling and reinstalling the plug-in may be a good idea. Pay attention to the section where the installer asks for the VST plug-in path. It has been a long time since I have installed any NI plug-ins but I am sure they still have a way to specify the install path. I prefer to put all VST plug-ins in the Cakewalk default VST folder inside vendor specific folders. If you allow NI to use its default, make sure to pay attention to the install screens as there probably is one that tells you where it is going to install the plug-in just before you click OK to install.

Yeah ... there is a button to turn on excluded plugins or just disabled plugins I think ... I've tried everything in there. But, to your point, no matter which button or tab I click on in there, I don't see it. I thought maybe it only turns up in the pro channel or something, so I tried to see if I go bring it in as a module there. I don't really have that much stuff installed so it should be pretty obvious when it pops in there. Here's another weird aspect of this struggle. At the same time I installed Replica XT, I also installed NI GuitarRig 4 LE that came with sonar. THe reason was, I saw it in the "Available downloads" tab in the NI Control Panel. I thought why not, I will not use this for guitars so much as other things like keys and vocals ... maybe even process room sounds through it ... compress your wet reverb signal anyone? ... anyway, it just seemed like a good time to go ahead and install that as well. Well that worked just fine and I can see that plugin. Not the pesky delay though ...

The people at NI suggested this: "It's possible it failed validation. Check this article for help with this: https://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation?product=SONAR%20X3&language=3&help=Dialogs2.064.html" Funny though that article doesn't seem to be about validation ... this is the kinda help I was getting. Lol. I will try to get psyched to spend some more time chasing this problem after work. I will try the uninstall thing. Thanks to everybody that helped out so far! Nice folks.
