New Pugtone Tune-"BIG BONED BETSY" (Update 11-2-12)

I'd like to say the lyrics have a deep meaning but..... Mark sent the music and for some reason this is what came to mind.   The old cocoon/butterfly story I guess.  We want to thank our buddy, Scotty Campbell,  for tickling the ivory for us here.  That guy's a trip.  Mark is having surgery so this will be our last song till he gets better.  Quickly I hope!!  Thanks for listening and commenting if you get the time.  All crits and suggestions welcomed.
THIS IS THE UPDATED VERSION, PER THE SUGGESTIONS.  THANKS!

SCOTTY CAMPBELL- PIANO
MARK CLINE- MUSIC, DRUMS, ALL GUITARS
WARREN WILLINGHAM- LYRICS, VOCALS, BASS

This is for all the butterflies and the cocoons.

    Hey, Warren,

Oh, yeah, that's some "good 'ol down 'n dirty" Pugtones blues rock at it's finest!

Great lyrics and vocals, punchy "in yer face" bass lines, Scotty's got the honky tonk piano down pat, and the guitar and organ sound traditionally vintage and kickin'.

Excellent job, guys, and please tell Mark that I wish him a speedy recovery from his surgery!

I knew a gal in highschool like that... her bones were not all she had, that was big...

she had a big mouth too...

Don't shoot that piano player... he's purdy good...
Love the tune guys...  a compressor/limiter on the lead vox, might help even it out... as some of the lyrics are hard to make out...
Mark... I hope you have a very speedy recovery... God Bless you...

Cool tune my friend!  I with notnat on this one about the vox...hard to understand some of it.  I wish the bass guitar tone was a hint more defined too... a little mushy on my system.

I think we all knew (know?) a gal like Betsy!  lol

    Thanks bud.

    Cheers!

    Hi guys!

This is my first post from my brand new iPad.

I'd like to thank the Pugtones for inviting me in for this tune and for putting up with my delays. My new Motif had to be away in the keyboard hospital for an examination, which held up the process. Good luck to you, Mark with your surgery.

    Good job on this one

The only thing is like what notnat said about the comp on the vocals might help a bit, but other than it's great.
Some of the guitar reminded me a bit of sections from Abbey Road

Robby- Thanks.  Just who or what did you think Betsy is?  Chuckle

Old55- Thanks for listening and commenting!

Bob- Well, thanks, buddy.  Nice hearing your new stuff.  Funny how this song ended up.  We shelved it for awhile.  I guess I just got tired of it and hated my vocals.  A couple months later it didn't sound as bad.  I ran out of storyline.  I'm not even sure how the storyline evolved.  LOL!  Mark really did a fine job on mixing it.  Scotty added that part I felt was missing.  Thanks for listening, Bob.

cclarry- Thanks for listening and commenting.  I hope your ears aren't bleeding!  :-)

Frank- Someone PMd me and said they married her!  LOL, NOT!  Thanks for listening!  Mark did tweek the vox and bass.

tbosco- Yeah, we all know betsy but I always ended up with her when she was the cocoon.  Chuckle.  Mark fixed the vox per you and Frank, and he did something to the bass.  I liked the bass better before he tweeked it.  Waddo I know?  I'm just a bass player!

Bapu- Thanks, Ed.  That memory thing messes with me too.  Seems like I was going to tell you something.......

Lynn- You must have the most posts commenting on tunes of anyone in history.  You're a really good guy.  We appreciate you listening and your kind comments!

    Warren (and Mark/Scotty),
Great to be listening to a new Pugtones tune.  Quality stuff as usual.  I really like the raunchy guitar that kicks this one off.  Nice reverb, really gives it some life.  The vocals were pretty clear to me, very up front in the mix on my system.  Great stuff guys!

    Hope Mark gets well soon!

I love songs that tell a story - nice.

The guitar in the intro seems a bit loud.  Same w/ the vocals when they come in.  I'm just talking a dB or 2.  The mix and instruments are good enough they don't need to be overwhemled.

And on the chorus I'd thin out the BV's w/ a HPF some.  Again, leading but a bit masking.

All my suggestions are tweaks - it is a great song done very well.

Warren, that's the best part of songwriting, seeing where it takes you and where you wind up, you never know in the beginning.

    Sorry I missed this earlier.

I swear to got this stuff ya all have been doing lately would pack every honky tonk in America.

I like my vocals up front like this - good job, the guitars are  hot, nice bottom end.

Cool tune!   Maybe to my ear there may be some EQ shelving or some ruduction in one the bands, a touch of boominess, but it might be these crappy little headphones I'm using because the wife went to bed.
