wow, you really upped the ante on this one Mark! i'm gonna have to get some practice in to compete! ;-)

awesome opening tapping riff, re the timing anomaly mentioned above, the guitar is just slightly behind the bass at that point, a little nudge of a few cents should work fine.

This is great guitar playing man! I am a new guitar player and I am wondering if I should just quit now

Thanks Tim!  Nah man, I wouldn't quit.  Give it another couple weeks.

Marc: love the tune, the tones, great feel always a good hook in your stuff which to me is super important for instrumental stuff. 2 little things if I may...

1. I love the tapped beginning, but for some reason I can't seem to feel/find the timing of it. I'm not saying it's out of time, I'm just not feeling it no matter how hard I try...but I love the lick!! When it comes back in again, it hits me that same way...like the timing just isn't sitting well with me. I'm sure it's probably me though as I sometimes frustrate myself over odd timings.

2. I felt the drums could have been a bit louder. At times they just seemed to be a bit in the background. Always audible of course, just a bit lower than they should be in my opinion.

Really nice use of effects that enhance your guitar tone. Always love listening to your stuff...thanks for sharing this, it's an awesome track!

Frank - Thanks for listening buddy.  Glad you liked it.

Danny - Nice to see you.  Per the timing thing, I'll look at it again.  It sits well with me, but that doesn't mean it might not be a bit off.

I agree about the drums, I just haven't gone back into the project to do any adjustments yet.

Hi Marc, nice to see/hear you too man. I'm glad I didn't upset you with my post...thanks for not killing me. LOL! Nah if it feels right to you...and no one else but me has said anything, I'd say it's me. I have 2 weird hang-ups in myself that I have been trying to get over for years. One is certain timing things that I hear and the other is accepting things that aren't as diatonic. You know when ya listen to jazz and some of that out there stuff just seems like it could be wrong notes, yet it's not? Some of that just strikes me as wrong even though it's completely theoretically correct. But on the timing thing,  I'm a drummer as my first instrument and have played just about every style, so I'm decent at timings...but some things that are actually correct, still hit me as "a bit off" if that makes any sense? So it very well could be me man. At any rate, this is an awesome tune....fat guitar tones, great licks and you always give the listener the almighty hook regardless of how much technique you throw at them...and to me, that's what makes a great instrumentalist. Well done. :)

Hey Danny,  no way I'd be angry.  I love getting feedback, especially from someone as talented and knowledgeable as yourself.

I know what you mean about the Jazz stuff.  A majority of it I can truly appreciate, but frankly some of it just sounds like someone screwing around with their instruments.

The tapping timing thing might be me favoring my right hand.  I used both hands over the top of the fretboard and this is the first time I have tried this.  So the left hand is kinda weak still in this technique.  I'm sure the notes are timed right but the emphasis may be on the right hand notes which don't necessarily fall on the main beat.

Hi Mark,
Great song and some REALLY great playing going on there!  Loved the opening riff and I'm with Rik when saying that I loved how it came back in the song as well.  Danny pointed out that you don't venture off too far from the hook (bringing it back when appropriate), excellent job as I'm a "hook man" myself!  Loved the crunch guitar, bass and drum combo as well.  Did notice a few small things, but not really worth mentioning as the strength of composition made up for them.   A great song to be riding down a dusty road with.  May have to take the pickup off road sometime soon.

Hi Mark,

Cool tune and amazing playing...the tapping part doesn't really sound like tapping to me, it just sounds great

Personally, I like the "timing anomalies"...and everything else.

Hi Juli, thanks for the compliments.  I really like the bass line too, but it's 1000 miles away from where I started.  Nice how things develop when you're writing.

Nice, nice, nice.  What a mess of riffs you put together on this thing.  Nice juxtaposition on the jazzy riff with the rocking tune.  Very cool stuff!
