New Rock Song New Mix 6/18

NEW MIX. Thanks to all for the opinions and advice. Just finished this mix. Generally backed off compression on each track & backed off effects in general. Wonder if this is an improvement.

I Won't Wait For You.

Thanks,

Lawrence,

Bring the vocals up about 1 db. It sounds like I'm listening to a warped tape (sounds like volume swells). I like the song. But it seems if something is off with the eqing. Can't pinpoint it, but it seems like something is missing... maybe someone else will pinpoint it. Ok. the song stops kind of sudden, but the SoundClick timer goes on and on. I think the song should've been just a bit longer. Liked the song. There's a muddy feel to the recording though, like it could be made clearer. Did I mention, I like the song?

I agree - sounds like you are running vocals through a leslie or something - if that's what you are going after, then cool - but the singer has a nice voice and i wouldn't mask it by trying fancy vocal fx tricks - just put a nice compressor/limiter, a little EQ and a nice verb.

Are you using some kind of processing for harmony vocals? I can't really tell what is going on there?

I think if you clean the vocals up you have a really nice tune here.

OK, you win the Foxwolfen song of the month award.

    THAT WAS OUT_FREAKING_STANDING!!!!!

I agree, bring the vox up a hair.

It sounds to me like you have too much compression, there appears to be some pumping going on.

Great, great song! Way too short. I would be quite content if it never ended heheh

    Wonderful!

(EDIT - Just want to play this one over and over - fix the minor mix issues and then tell me where to buy the CD!).

Thanks for the suggestions. Tweaking mix as I go. Trimmed end of clips (oops),was reason for clip going on after the end. Brought up the vocals 2db on the chorus. Song is short. I think I'm gonna add a middle 8 after the second chorus then another chorus out??? Will work on eq.

    Thanks,

Whoa! This is an excellent song! Good vox & harmonies and I agree it needs to come forward. Pretty guitar playing. Nice heart-felt composition.

I really like what you've done here, and I REALLY like the vocals, but agree, that they seem to be pushed out by the rest of the mix in parts. In other parts, they're right there, but in some places, they seem to be behind the music, and they really need to be out there (they're good)

Lawrence, I think the vocals sound really good now, volume, balance, compression, all are well done IMHO. I like the sound of the acustic in the intro, nice. Song is very well done.

Whoa, you got one vox there, mate. Excellent. Top marks, maybe only a tad more definition/separation of the low end. But sod that, it's very, very enjoyable.

I just looked back and realized YOU were the one that did that AMAZING cover of "Elenor Rigby"... Whoa dude, what are eating for breakfast!? I gotta get me a bowl of that!

Relistening to this full blast on monitors, you can add the Roflcopter 2008 Goosebumps Award to your list, for what it's worth.

[I stick to the low end comment, tho. Also there is a slight very slow Leslie-like phasing on the vox in parts, more noticeable now. But sod that, too. ]

Excellent. Very good song and mix. I would recommend on the harmony vocal to have the main vocal slightly louder, center panned. And the harmony vocal slightly lower, with a duplicated track, one panned right and the other left equally. i think it would clear the vocals some. Just a thought.

One of the best, if not the best song I've heard over at Soundclick! Your vox talent is amazing! Songwriting excellent, and recording top notch. I also hear the compressor pumping on the vox, and I do like the heavy low end, but I'd roll-off some lows off the vox a bit to separate it from the heavy bottom. I might add a little highs also to bring the vocal a little more upfront in the mix. What mic are you using? It seems like there is a virtual veil covering the mic, which removes the clarity from your vox. Maybe the EQ tips might help with that! I love the song, and was blown away by your cover of Elanor Rigby. You are the real deal young man, and the best of luck to you!

I just listened to all of your songs again. Forget what I said in my previous post about rolling off the lows on your vox. I listened to so many songs tonight I confused your vox with another artist's altogether. I agree with most of the previous comments. But, I still think your talent is amazing! Sorry for the confusion. Hey, what do you expect, I'm an old geezer!!

Great tune. I like the whole arrangement. Great guitars and great emotion on the vox.

My only comment would be on my monitors it seemed like the mix was panned hard left and hard right with nothing in the center towards the end. The main vox starts in the center with the acoustic set in a nice wide stereo. Then around 1:25 the whole mix seems to get really wide. Could be just me.

Did I mention what a great arrangment it was?

Very good tune. I like it.

The vocal level thing is very dependent on the lower mids response of the speaker and room. On my little computer speakers, which have hyped lower mids, they vocals are actually pretty up front. Sometimes it seems impossible to really get a vocal EQ mix that sounds consistent everywhere. Maybe high pass it up a little higher perhaps, I dunno. That might make it too shrill, though you could roll off some high sto compensate maybe.

Hooly crap!! this is freaking sweet! It sounds as though the vocals are bit too processed though. But the song writing is phenomenal!! I LOOVE IT! I'm really glad you mention for me to check it out. It doesn't sound as punchy as I want it to be (but I think that it is because it is so good I just really want it to rock as hard as a nickelback song) There also appears to be artifacts from the mp3 encoding? Sounds like a lot of psychoacoustic compression/masking is going on. Dunno. Something is giving that phasey sound that I remember from low-bit rate songs though.

I'm you're newest fan, man. I would totally buy a record from you if it were produced in a really good studio and all that. I can just imagine how awesome it would sound... ah yeah. That'd be sweet. I have friends that would like this stuff too. I'll give them a linky to it. I'm having to play it a second time now. I seriously hope you get a record deal. Heck of a lot better than the majority of the whiney boy band crap out there with no soul.

Oh my gosh. I just saw that you said you did everything on this one!!!? That's even more amazing. That's crazy. For this to be a one man production I would have never ever guessed in my whole life... But yeah guy - you have an astoundingly good voice.

Oh no! How do I download it?? I want to download this song darnit! lol. Is it on itunes or something?

    Hi Josh:

first of all thank you very very much for the nice complement. Yeah when I render it to mp3 I am getting a weird phasey effect. I am using Sonar PE so I don't know why it is happening. I am using the high quality setting. Anyway I'm gonna figure out a way to fix it & re-post.

I would love to put this up for download, but I am talking to a Publisher at the moment who told me not to do that just yet. Sorry I don't want to mess up potentially getting paid for what I would still do if I was never paid for it. But gettin paid would be great!!!

Thank You again, really glad you liked it.
