New Roland "Quad Capture"

Found this on Rolands site seems like a smaller version of the Octa Capture but looks pretty slick either way.

Overview movie Roland Quad Capture

Details

The Tri capture device looks useful as well. Nice design.

Yeah nice. Actually there are a couple of nice new products there that I didn't know about. Are they unveiling some of this stuff at Musikmesse maybe? Or I have been under a rock too long and they've been out a while? lol

Edit: Just checked out the product video for the quad-capture. Really like that auto-sens feature, and the visual peak meter built into the area around the level adjustment knobs. I then checked out the product video for the Micro BR-80.....wow....I've got GAS bad again.....someone burp me!

Roland Quad-Capture UA-55 just £169.00 in the UK? Is that right? I thought it would be a lot more than that, more like £249.00 or something! Nicely surprised it's so affordable.

Yep that seems about right according to this retailer. It is a very decent price.

If it works as well as the Octa-Capture, it is one nice bit of kit.

Notation, the original DAW. Everything else is just rote. We are who we are and no more than another. Humans, you people are crazy.

The capture Range (including the "Octa") appear to all be USB only. For Firewire the existing FA -66 and FA-101 (maybe another I have not mentioned) are still available AFAICT. :-)

It would be nice to see something in between the Octa and Quad Capture. Say two front inputs and two rear inputs (like the Octa only two instead of four) with a couple more outputs. Named what?

EDIT: Never did understand how two inputs equates to four inputs - seems more like a Duo capture to me. Yeah then they could have saved the Quad name for something with four inputs.

It has four inputs when you include the digital ins.

    No firewire but they say:

"QUAD-CAPTURE offers incredible stability and industry-leading low-latency USB performance via Roland’s proprietary VS Streaming technology. QUAD-CAPTURE offers incredible stability and industry-leading low-latency USB performance via Roland’s proprietary VS Streaming technology."

Does anybody know if this is really better?
I assume this stream audio data between the device and the driver in your daw. I wonder how this passes the USB controller faster than normal.

Is this maybe the same protocol as in the VS700?

I think Roland Hit a home run with this audio device .. Great Price point , Great driver support , Low latency and good pre's..  I do see the SNR is a little lower than the octo . and the Vs 100.. but nothing my ear's would hear, I suppose .

Probably just preloads data of tracks once there's more than one track?  In the second or two you arm for recording and start, it could have all the info it needs for a few minutes and focus on tracking.   I would think there would be some DSP processing handled by the box sort of like the MBox 3s to make them work better but sounds like more of a operating system type read ahead from the description.  Probably wont speed up your Pro Tools but more to work with Sonar X1.  I have both Pro Tools and Cakewalk and Cakewalk is so much faster and less likely to get bogged down via the Eleven Rack it's crazy and it's USB and not even designed to work with Cakewalk specifically.  I imagine X1 has been programmed to allow the streaming to make this unbeatable.

Anyone with the V Studios that use this know how this works?  Am I close?

It may very well be but I guess only Roland know for sure. The Quadcapture definitely has VS preamps though.

The octa capture VS100 & VS700 should integrate within the same driver so you could expand your setup with those devices all within one ASIO driver. I wonder if this unit has that same driver and ability.

Doesn't seem to have a seperate control for the headphone volume, it seems to be tied to the main outputs. I have to turn my amp off or down, when just wanting to use the headphones

I have the quad capture....it's GREAT...

Same VS preamps as the VS100 and VS700

It has "autosense" leveling....just push a button and play and it sets the levels

    And built in compression....

I have the VS 100, but had to sell it a while back, so replaced it with a slightly lower priced unit...
