New SONAR Plus Skin Editor Coming in March
Hi all, If anyone is interested in skinning X1 (and judging by Panu's recent thread, there are quite a few of you), you might want to have a look at the link below. To cut a long story short, I'm working on a new X1 skin editor program called SONAR Plus Skin Editor. Panup has been kind enough to agree to share his X1 skinning knowledge with me to speed things up (so I don't have to waste time figuring out all the stuff he already knows). I'll also be bundling his skins with it, so you have some ready made skins to use and tweak if you want. I'm hoping it will bring X1 skinning to the masses! Anyway, here is the link: http://www.sonarplus.co.uk/Pages/SkinEditor/SkinEditorAnnouncement.aspx Thanks, Ben

I sure hope Cakewalk doesn't lock down their .dll somehow with the X1b patch and make all this hard work useless.

Wow! ! ! ! Ben you are incredible, just incredible! ! ! ! I use SONAR X1 Helper every time I use SONAR X1. I can't wait for the new version of SONAR Plus and Skin Editor to be released. Thanks so all of your hard work! And thanks to Panup. I checked out his site and some of his skins are beautiful ( http://www.avaruusankat.com/SonarX1a_mod/mods/x1a/Screen%20caps/Reindeer%201.00/index.php)! Would sure be nice to have a feature in SONAR Plus the switch between skins on the fly! ;) Thanks again!

Gregmang You guys absolutely rock ! Has Cake made any mention of the work you guys are doing/have done ? It's a very tricky area for Cakewalk, and I'm not at all surprised they haven't mentioned anything so far. But, I think the fact that they are so far tolerating this type of meddling is to their credit.

benstat Panu has been kind enough to agree to share his X1 skinning knowledge with me to speed things up Hi people, Let's correct one major mistake of the quote: I'm privileged, not kind enough to collaborate with Ben, that superb programmer with deep knowledge of Windows programming. X1b + Sonar Plus + Skin Editor featuring my mods will be BEAUTIFUL. Maybe I was the first to mod X1 but I look forward to see you guys share your mods made by the Skin Editor. It will be easy, fun and safe. I don't believe Cakewalk is against us. Why would it be? In case Bakers prevent modding this community will get utterly mad. If they let us continue then users will get happier. Cakewalk wins. Community wins. -Panu

Benstat and Panup: You two have made so many people here much happier, day-by-day. We now have a new and improved reason to log on to the site. For a while, I dreaded logging om because of all the fighting (rightly or wrongly). Your new proposed Skin Editor will be welcomed by so many, many, many etc...... I love Sonar Plus; I love Panup's mods; and I am beginning to love Cakewalk X1a. I look forward to turning on the DAW once again because of you two! It is an exciting time to be part of this forum because of what you two have offered to us in the service of the greater good of music. Cecelius2

Will you please make sure there is a high contrast mod. I use Panup's black one with white text. I think the text could be just a touch bigger or just bold. It is an eye saver for me. If you want a screenshot of how I set my view up for anything, it's done. Well done!

Well I take this as a general answer to X1's "one UI to rule them all" methodology. They're gonna have to open customizations back up someday, I don't know of any program that gets better going the other way. Maybe they'll use this as a jumping off point and implement full-scale skinning so they don't have to deal with forumites flipping out every time they change an interface element.

Beware: The CW managers have thwarted at least 3 attempts at significant expansion of Sonar. Sonar 4 broke Sendkeys, a CAL macro extention. And Universal Surface control with macro functions, and a midi FX macro language, became less useful with upgrades, and lack of published specs and/or lack of full implementation. The authors told me CW dudes were most unhelpful with making information available. Why? Prolly the idiotic belief that propritary information is more important than user's ability to use the program. Sharing information is always more profitable. So is good marketing. I hope they do not interfere with Sonar Plus' development. But given the general stupidity of SX I figger they will find a way. J

jm24 Beware: The CW managers have thwarted at least 3 attempts at significant expansion of Sonar. They should't. Allready posted this in Panup's thread, but I will post it once again, hoping Cakewalk will read this: Modding can contribute to the succes of SONAR. This happened with Rebirth, more than 10 years ago. Back in the days of Rebirth hackers made modded versions of Rebirth. The possibility of making mods was soon adopted by Propellerheads and contributed to the succes of Rebirth. The possibility of modding became a feature. Read more on this: http://www.rebirthmuseum.com/community/part4.htm I hope that Cake learnes from music history.
