New SSD for Windows 8

I'm thinking tomorrow I will order a new SSD drive for a clean install of Windows 8. My question is: The Samsung drive I've thinking I'll get is 2.5 inch, will that fit in my case's unused floppy drive? Or do I need to get an adapter to 3.5? I would love to use the old drive bay because I just hate waisted space, but I saw an adapter for just 5.99.

I think most of them have an adapter that comes with them in the box.

Most of them may, but I happen to know that the Samsung 830 drive that I want does not have one included. Also, the combo pack is sold out at newegg.

Solid state is a zero torque environment. You should be able just to stick it in place with bubble gum.

Hi Chris,

The Samsung SSDs are good... and you're correct that they don't come with a 2.5" to 3.5" bay adapter.
Some newer cases have provisions for mounting 2.5" SSDs.
If you're unsure... open up the case and have a look.
If you don't feel like opening the case... you could just order a 2.5" to 3.5" adapter. If you don't end up using it, you're only out a few dollars.

BTW, For maximum performance (500+MB/Sec), you'll want to connect the Samsung to the SATA-III controller that's integrated into the motherboard's chipset. Connecting to a 3rd party SATA-III controller (although still fast) results in slower speeds.

You bet I know about the 500+MB/sec thing :)
Ordered it, now I'll see what I can do.
I've got a bunch of spare screws and fasteners that I've been saving.
I figure even though a SSD is light, it would be better not bumping it around in there.

Update:
Installed new drive into the side of old floppy bay just fine. Plenty of space in there so it's attached with two screws to the bay and hangs.
Now I just need to figure out what to do about covering the floppy bay since I stupidly threw out the metal cover that came with the case.
