New Song -- (Alive in a ) Dead World

I'm fairly happy with this for the meantime. I don't know how long it will last . There's a bit of sibilence in the middle 8 but I'm not sure how to get rid of it as I want to keep the "telephone" effect there.

Dead World

Also I was trying to recreate some sort of an effect on the vocals that I heard one of the Cake guys, Brandon Ryan (sp?) use on the vocal in a song of his that he posted a few months back. I didn't pull it off but got something quite interesting all the same.

Any comments always welcome.

Thanks,

Oli

Nice job, although its not the type of music I write it is among the styles of music I listen to often. First, I really like your voice, its perfect for this genre of music. The drumming and guitar work are just right also - very effective.

My only criticism is something that I'm not sure I have the musical knowledge to express, but I'll try anyway - that is, I would have LOVED (rather than just like very much) this song if it had a bigger twist or hook in the middle that took the listener a bit by suprise (REM and U2 were both great at doing that little trick in their very early stuff). Don't know how else to express it other than that. But, this is still a very nice peice of work.

I'd agree that in the previous comments that I would like to see a hook or twist or some other kind of dynamics in the composition.

I'd also go with a lusher synth sound...that's to taste, but I nearly expected it to be there somewhere and it just wasn't... Nothing too modern, but fuller and a little more in your face. Otherwise I'm glad you're Alive...in a dead world, a dead world.

Thanks for listening and the comments.

I think you're right about the need for something a bit less obvious in the middle 8. Not quite sure what to do though -- that's a creativity issue.

And yep, I'm glad I'm alive in a dead world too Tony -- I wrote this when it was just one of those bleak, drab and grey overcast mornings that we specialise in here in foggy London. Everyone looked so dischuffed and down with life as they went to work (or had no work to go to)... but I was in love [pass the sick bucket]. I bet I'd never have written it if I'd lived in Florida .

    Like it, Oli!

It stands out to me, though, that the fidelity on the instruments isn't near as good as the vocals. Not sure what you could do about that; but it might be worth another listen. The band sounds kind of small and centered, too. Maybe panning things out a bit more could help.

This is an ongoing problem I've got I'm afraid M -- hearing loss in one ear. If I mix how I think it should sound then anyone else will get a blast on the Left. I tend to play it safe and Centre most things. If I'm lucky I get someone else to do a bit of panning for me.

And the moral of the story is... always wear earplugs when you're exposed to loud noise. You won't miss it till it's gone .

    Thanks for listening.

I will say one thing, you guys from the UK know how to write some great music. I liked the arrangement in this one and the fact that is has a different sound. Very cool song.
