New Song - Overhead Projector

This is a brand new one that features a lot of vocals.

I started out working on my overhead mic technique for acoustic drums and wrote this to try them out on but then it turned into this big vocal production song. Like a big flash from that overhead projector in the sky.

I'm playing bass, drums, piano, guitars, and singing all the vocals.

It's titled "Overhead Projector" at:

That's the best thing you've posted in a long time Glen and some of the best background vocals I've ever heard in this forum. Hard to find any fault with this at all. That was some very fine guitar playing too. I feel like crawling in a hole and practicing for a couple of weeks....

Thanks Paul!  I re-cut a lot of the vocals and put a smoother version up.

Thanks for the kind words of support Bill!  This one came to me in a flash and I was originally just wanting to try out my new overhead mic technique with some music.  :-)

Doubled vocals totally work. Quirky chords and arrangement, like the Dan were forced to play a set with the Beach Boys.

Mix-wise, the vocals could be a bit more forward, but honestly as I listen, everything seems pretty far back. I could have just pushed the volume up and it might have been fine. Are you thinking you might "master" this one later, or are you there yet?

a truly original work here - I liked the performances all the way through. I guess it all just could be louder. Sorry, that's not a very helpful "mix critique"  :)

    cheers,
    -Tom

Thanks Tom!  Actually louder is an excellent mix critique. I was trying to break a nasty habit I have of using brick wall limiting on just about every track plus the master with this song, and while I never went into the red on any track or master, was concerned about the levels.  I even went and got this "K-Meter" for Linux this morning, and am going to spend some time with it. I've tried some of the LUFs meters out there, but found them to be more confusing than helpful. Maybe I'll have better luck with Bob Katz K-System. I really just want consistent volume levels from one song to the next and without pushing the levels so hard as I've done in the past. Thanks for your comments!

Thanks James!  Steely Dan and the Beach Boys are two of my all time favorite artists.
