New Song final master

I think I've got this song mastered just the way I had envisioned it , it's a little messy but thats how I intended it .

really like how you've ended up here. i enjoyed the original version, and you have done the opposite to what i would have done - you have brought the guitars and vox forward to tie in better with the drums, whereas i would have lowered the drums, making the song more dreamy and ethereal...but your way works very well. nice original sound, and the way you have worked through the mixing process is very encouraging!

Yes, it is a different original sound.  Guitar in the middle and the wide vocals, unusual but it works.  Then around 1:42 they trade places.  Really like what you did here.

I agree with Tony about the vocal.  Need more, unless this is what you were going for.  It is different.  I like the change out of the intro.  Good tune.  Kick seems solid to me but ther rest of the percussion seems a bit thin.  Thin is my word for not loud enough.  :-)

Thanks so much for all the kind words guys ! I've been playing music with a serious focus about 8 years now but I've only been doing the home recording thing about 4 months . Sorry I took down the original youtube video . The second post on this thread has the latest and loudest version . Again thanks for all the kind words . Feel free to add the Facebook page ( Wink wink )

I have to be honest. I don't get it. Especially the intro and the massive effects.
Timing is an issue. Really distracting and confusing. I can't pick out any vocal over the mash of noise.

The problem is that a lot of the sounds are working against each other. The drums and some of the guitar lines sound very close mic'd and upfront and it feels like you've tried to compensate by adding too many effects in the wrong places. I understand what you've tried to go for (i think) but this is really hard to listen to. Think about adding space in the mix and getting things to sit nicely before you start adding lots of effects. For me, mixing and production is more about what you leave out than what you add to it. So that when you do add an effect it really comes through and adds something to the whole clarity and space of the sound.

Sorry to be so critical, hopefully you'll find it constructive.

Chris.

I thought this was very, very cool. Psychedelic – melancholia, a very entertaining and ambitious piece. I like the very simple melody laying over the craziness. The depressing image seems appropriate as well. Sometimes the vocals get a bit lost but that only makes me strain to listen which isn’t a bad thing because it involves me in the tune (I’m not describing this very well) but the point is, vocals re low but not so low that it bothers me. I enjoyed the heavy effects, in this dreamy bizarre context they work. Nice.

I almost stopped listening before the end of the intro section. I know that there are musical styles I just don't 'get' and unfortunately this type of experimentation is one of them :(

So... I can't comment on the music because I'm not qualified to... but...

The mix was interesting but I did find it hard to pick out individual instruments in the louder sections - is that deliberate or is it a consequence of YouTube screwing with the sound?

The shouty bit at the end reminded me of Pink Floyd for some reason.

Sorry I didn't 'get' it :(

Cheers,
Terry.
