New Song up on my MixMaxlr page
I'm posting today to highlight a fellow forum member's talents. Randy Calligan had emailed me asking me to take a listen to one of his tunes for a possible mix. To be quite honest I was floored by the quality of the songwriting, emotion and singing in the track. Although it's an intensely personal song for Randy he was kind and generous enough to allow me to take it and "remix" it as I saw fit. I basically kept his vocal and acoustic guitar and redid and/or added the rest. But my main goal was to keep the feel and emotion of his original mix of the song intact, if not enhance it. My mix aside I encourage you to listen to it simply to hear what a lovely song Randy has written and sung. It's a real gem. Moments Long Forgotten https://soundcloud.com/mixmaxlr/tracks

You're right, Olpal, this is very expressive. I think your mix is very well defined and supportive of his vocal and guitar. Personally, I would cut about 1db @ 3k, or so, to soften it a bit, but that's just me. I really like this as is.

Nice airy mix, little harshness in places, as noted by Lynn, but other than that quite sympathetic.

Is this another Arkansas guy? We should have a Arkansan Sonar convention or something. Very nice tune, voice and mix. The entire production is very tastefully done...everything sounds great, but it doesn't distract from the story or voice at all. Tough to do...Nice job pal.

This guy has that up front feel to his music. Nothing to find wrong. The up close and personal vocals really add to the feel. Can't wait to hear it completed.

Other than a little sibilance here and there this sounds really good. I think you did a great job keeping the original feel of the vocals and acoustic (which sound great BTW) while bringing it up a notch with an equally great arrangement - loved how the strings and piano sounded like they just belonged.

Yup...I've got the de-esser working overtime but the nature of Randy's voice and keeping the "intimacy" factor as high as possible meant some strident s and t on occasion.

Beautiful song and vocals (those harmonies!), and the arrangement is spectacular, just right for the song. A masterful mix too. I don't hear the harshness, but my ears are somewhat ragged in the higher freqs so there you go. But then again, we'd expect nothing less from an Arkansas boy.

small nit would be the acoustic sound at the very beginning...little phasey sounding maybe??? ..like some comb filtering is happening. the bass end and it's mix totally makes it for me. WONDERFUL overall. Great song and production.
