New Steinberg Controllers ...... brilliant *but* will they work with Sonar X1 ?

Hi all  !

See here for details:-

http://www.steinberg.net/en/products/controller/cmc_serie/start.html   its not often I say or think this, but SB has hit a home run with these units:-

- small / modular / no moving parts / usb / inexpensive

* If *   these can be installed / configured  to run with Sonar X1  I cant imagine them not selling like  hot-cake's  [ no pun intended ].

Wow! Pretty cool! But look a little Steinbergspecific to me. However, maybe Roland could make something simmilar for Sonar?

I'd buy something generic.. (yet was silly enough to by NI kore 2..lol) I use a few host's and well I'd rather not be tied to 1 vendor where obv. their product works great with their own DAW.. e.g. cakewalk + roland , as opposed if I used it for something not made by them. if you look at the specs, The compat chart on the specs, show it's only their hosts supporting it.

Very interesting.  I like the idea of expansion based on my needs.  That is definitely one of the turn offs about the VS-700C for me right now.  And (for me personally) I don't care for the look of the VS-700C.  I used to own a VS-2480 (back in the 90s) and the VS-700C uses a very similar hardware look to that old guy.  So, it felt to me when I first saw it "What did they have old VS parts laying around they used to put it together...".

Conceptually, I have to give Steinberg credit for really thinking outside the box with this solution.  It has a very modern look that the younger generation will like and provide flexiblity (and portability) for the current mix/master engineer who is looking for a control surface.

I've been wanting to get a control surface for a while now and if these are found to work in Sonar X1 (or other DAWs I'd consider) I'd definitely give them consideration. As Fog says though it looks like right now only Steinberg software.

    Thanks for sharing the info,
    Tom

If you look at the SB page a couple of the units work generically - but not the faders.

It is an interesting idea, but even with the holder unit they look a little flexible (in a bad way - on one of the videos you see a unit slide).  Still, a good attempt and you can build your own.  The faders look like a hit or miss - I can't tell if they would work for me.

I still like their cc 121 all-in-one unit.  If Cake shorted the VS700 with a fader, some knobs and the jog/shuttle wheel, I'd buy it.  Or a tablet with the fader built in - that would be cool.
