New String Library from hideaway Studios
Hi Just received an email from Dan at Hideaway about his new Kontakt Library called String Collection - Nothing particularly new but I had a listen and decided to buy because I thought it sounded really good and it's only 10 pounds.... http://hideawaystudio.wordpress.com/ Nigel

Pretty nice sounding for modelled strings. He sure did a good job. I'm a little on the fence with this one, but by the end of tomorrow I've probably picked it up anyway

All Hideaway's stuff sounds pretty good and they are ALL CHEAP - some of the single sound stuff for Kontakt are only 1.50 pounds each!! And Dan's a really nice guy which helps. Nigel

These will sound fabulous mixed in just a tad with a "real" legato string package. Adding just the right amount of warmth and phatness.

Thanks for the heads up. It's one site I had not seen before, it looks like there is some pretty interesting stuff there.

These do sound nice! I kept on thinking that the GUI and web page layout with other instruments for sale below looked like it was a Hollow Sun product. Listening to the audio it sounded like it was a Hollow Sun project, but it is a Hideaway Studio project. THEN I read the credits and noticed that Stephen from Hollow Sun was credited for layering engine, GUI and Graphics. What a nice collaboration. Warm and evocative use of a Novachord and other string synths. I may have to get this one.

Did I count correctly? - 17 instruments in their total collection and you can get the lot for 71.50. (UK Pounds) The Pentodian Resonator Choir for a tenner has got my interest.

Thanks for the heads up, the demo sounds great. I have the S-VX and orbitine Collections and really like them. Very warm and lots of creative possibilites. The pricing is also great!

Glyn I have most of their stuff - the Pentodian Choir is one I have actually already used on a couple of occasions - just seems to "fit" where I was having issues with a couple other libraries. Haven't used some of the other stuff, but am planning to do so on the next project. Cheers Nigel

Glyn Barnes Did I count correctly? - 17 instruments in their total collection Yep, and what's amazing is that Dan's just gotten started late last year. Hideaway Studios is cranking them out like hotcakes. And, unless you're getting a late start, the offerings are all so inexpensive as to be no-brainers. I don't even bother to listen to the demo tracks when a new one is announced. I just press add-to-cart and proceed to download. One more thing. If you check out the Hideaway site in detail, you may be very intrigued by the Novachord restoration project. If so, head on over to Hollow Sun to pick up the Music Laboratory Machine Novachord offering, which was made using the restored instrument.

Yup, my scriptmeister and I help Dan out with his stuff - it's a nice little 'co-operative' and a bit of fun. Dan's been a chum since we did the Novachord together and as mentioned above, he's a nice bloke. Mad as a bloody box of trumpets and the archetypal boffin - always has a kitchenful of valves and tubes and oscilloscopes and wires and aroma of solder, designing and building bonkers circuits!! Just go and buy his stuff - it's cheaper than a evening out down the pub!! Stephen

Just had a look at the Hideaway site and there is another new product. Price £1.50 After Dark is the latest atmospheric addition to The Blue Zone Series for Kontakt 4.2.4 and above. It comprises of 4 multis and 7 instruments made with several pieces of cherished gear in the studio including the Minimoog (FM plucks), a Studio Electronics Omega 8 (xmod bells), and two high frequency 1960′s tube signal generators mixed to form an audible superheterodyne effect similar to the Theremin…

Ah! Don't we all just love the fine scent of solder in the morning after a night out on the town at the pub?? Haha! I think that'll be my new greeting. Instead of the well established "Top of the mornin' to ya", I think I'll now start saying "Smell the solder in the mornin', do ya?". Meanwhile, I'm off to the site to check this all out.

Nigel - thanks for the tip. Even though I had no plans for further purchases ( at least for a while) the strings won me over.

I wonder whether these samples will work with the free Kontakt 5 Player?

Unfortunately not - they will work as a demo but cut out after a few minutes. You need the full version of Kontakt Nigel

That's a shame for me then, I guess ― I'd love to get my hands on these samples, but getting the full version of Kontakt is not a realistic option for a hobbyist like myself at the moment. Thanks for the info anyway.

newbie, think about saving up for Kontakt. Yeh, it's a hefty outlay up front but it will save you money in the long run if you like virtual instruments. The reason is that anyone who creates a library that runs in the free player has to pay substantial royalties to Native Instruments for the privilege, a cost that is passed on to the consumer. But anybody can create a library for full Kontakt without paying NI, so instruments that require full Kontakt are considerably less-expensive. Lots of excellent libraries out there priced between $5 and $50, or even free.
All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to. My Stuff

Newbie- listen to the BitFlipper. It'll give you great joy to take advantage of the stuff that perks your interest in the Kontakt universe. The stuff keeps coming out at crazy affordable prices and will give you great satisfaction for the ones you decide to pick up. It's very freeing, based on the low impact on your home budget, to add these gems as you wish.

Yeah for right at $31 USD I picked up both Pentodian Choir and the String Collection -- 10 pounds sterling each. They are fun right out of the box, but are also easy to tweak and come up with all kinds of new tonal delights that you can save as your own patches. Just dialing the coarse tuning on one of the choirs make it all sound different. This was a great addition to my growing Kontakt library. Like Bitflipper said above, owning a full version of Kontakt opens you to a world of quality third party libraries. Hideway Studios has some very affordable gems.

Hey Guys, Thumbs up for this thing. Cost just under $16 US dollars. Limited to four sample banks. Two are like live instruments and two are synthetic. All the presets are mixes of these, so it won't cover all orchestral grounds. There are good global effects..reverb, chorus, echo, phaser. Chorus and phaser sound stereo. Good control over the individual samples with volume, pan, attack/decay and can of course save custom presets. Well worth the investment. John
