New Tablet User Here: Samsung Galaxy Tab 2.0
All seems pretty good so far except this forum. Who knew, roight? The OS is Android, anyone know of an app that will let me: a) log in.... standard usage of the on board keyboard types ID and password OK but will not login saying the captcha is wrong (I even used upper case) b) allow me to post replies. Mooch told me I'm a stupid face and there is no such thing. I seem to recall that Jules found something for the iPad. Wonder if it works for non iPads.

I had a really hard time getting the captcha to work on my android as well. I don't remember what I did, but I finally got it to take and made sure and selected the "keep me logged in" checkbox. I'll try to remember what I did.

I am wondering where the 15 inch screen, 8 core, 12 gigs ram, 1 terabyte 7200 rpm hd tablets are.. I call em, "laptop replacements." I'm hoping A. Ultrabooks fail miserably. B. Laptops sales drop. C. Desktop sales remain flat. I know the technology is available to make, "laptop replacements." Yet.. it does not seem like the companies want to do that.. They would prefer to try and sell these Ultrabooks, and Laptops..

I can't get any of the pull down menus to work on my tab. so quoting someone from the tablet is impossible as well as editing.

I posted a thread "upstairs" regarding the Win8 tablets that are coming out. I'm thinking if I step into that bear trap that's the way I'm gonna go if initial reviews are good. Then I'll have a chance to mess around with Win8 without polluting one of my PCs. Win8 looks alright for tablets... horrible for everything else. Also the low end MS tablets are supposed to only be $200 or so the rumor goes.

Honestly I hope ultrabooks take off and replace laptops entirely. I'm really debating a tablet, what else are you using it for?

Well.. The microsoft surface looks interesting.. the case doubles as a keyboard. that's pretty cool. Is it going to kill the ipad? i doubt it. I also think its going to have a hard time fighting Android.. cause Android is open source.. companies will really want to use it.. like that company that is valued at over $1 billion... they have their own linux version.. I can't recall its name right now.... Windows 8.. imo.. really only good for ultrabooks, laptops, and desktops or, "laptops replacements." windows is a big massive system.. without some serious power, the tablets will be very busy keeping the os running... but.. we will see I guess..

@Linear Phase... The iPad thing is interesting and probably the best option considering they've already had a chance to mature properly but they are beeping expensive and I've resigned myself to learning all things PC at the moment. I've never been able to afford Apple gear and these days PCs and the alternatives are just as good in many ways and far less proprietary (I like tinkering and/or replacing things easily). As far as the Android stuff and opensource in general I am quite interested in learning those types of things but for now it would be adding so much more to my plate in regards to edumacation it would bury me. I am content (very content in fact) with Windows 7 and although I am firmly against Win8 taking over I would like to see what it does in the environment it was meant to do it in... which is tablets. Win 7 Home and Pro will be supported through 2018 so by then all the dust will have more than settled and I'm sure MS will have proper desktop OS replacement for it while keeping portable touchscreen versions separate or at least easy to switch between... which seems to be what Win8 does but I'm sure there will be TONS of weirdness to work out. So yes... we'll see.

Beepster I would be really angry if tablets replaced laptops. Fortunately that will never happen. Never going to happen. You can't do anything that resembles work on a tablet. I got a Toshiba Thrive instead of a small laptop and then found it's useless for anything requiring typing or normal interaction. So, I've got something to read PDF's, watch videos and play stupid games on - oh well! This is still my favorite mobile device though:
