New To Cakewalk, Need Help getting started
So I just downloaded the program Cakewalk Music Creator Le. I'm gonna be honest. I don't know what I'm doing. I'm a young teenage musician. I tried to get the tutorials but for some reason I can't find them. But anyway, I need help getting started. I don't know how to record on this program. I have a Samson condenser mic that i would like to hook up to my computer to record. So could anybody help me out? Can someone give me directions on how to record? And i am a singer-songwriter and use my acoustic guitar while i sing. Will I be able to record my singing and guitar playing at the same time? If anybody could help me out... i would really appreciate it. I just need help getting started. :)

When you first open up Music Creator there is an options panel called Getting Started? Try selecting the on-line tutorials from there. They actually have part of one of the tutorials using your microphone as an example of how to set MC up. If you have problems after that you might want to come back here and ask a few more specific questions. Give the tutorials a chance (They are also available from the help menu). Welcome to the forum.

OK... welcome.... next.... don't worry about the tutorials for now. next.... get rid of the USB mic...return it if you can and buy a decent USB based interface and a nice mic..... dynamic or condenser.... doesn;t matter. next..... hook it up, run the wave profiler to ID the new gear, and you should be able to record easily. next... if you encounter problems, ask specific questions here.... hope that helps.

next.... don't worry about the tutorials for now. That is just silly advice. Go through the tutorials before trying to do anything else. The getting started tutorial specifically deals with setting up MC using your mike and an internal sound card. You don't need any other hardware until you can at least record tracks and play them back. The tutorials will keep you from having to ask a lot of silly (even you will think so once you know what you are doing) questions on the forum. And i am a singer-songwriter and use my acoustic guitar while i sing. Will I be able to record my singing and guitar playing at the same time?
Once you start recording with MC you will probably discover that you can produce your music better when you record the guitar on one audio track and the vocals on another. Then you can do things like add compressors, reverb, limiters, and other effects that are in MC to give your music a much more polished and profesional sound. You can also do backing for the vocals and the guitar, add drums, bass. but yes, you can just record your voice and guitar at the same time.

I'm sorry, I have to agree with gcolbert on this - the tutorials are a big help to someone trying to start out. they are located as links in the help files (and on the startup window as gcolbert said above). as far as set up goes, check your other thread regarding the USB GO mic for setup help.

maybe so... I was thinking.... get sound first, then work the toots, but........ ............ if the toots show how to set it up.... I stand corrected.

One of the value-added features of Music Creator 6 is a set of six very good tutorials that cover how to perform basic functions like creating and saving files, setting up hardware, creating loops, recording audio and using software instruments. If you haven't looked these over I would strongly recommend doing so. Cakewalk did an exceptional job here. Unlike a lot of other software companies, the option to "Watch Video Tutorials" on the start page does not take you to an advertising and marketing web site. The tutorials are relevant, to the subject, and provide a great basic understanding of how to use MC. I think that we should all try to encourage new MC users to al least try to use the tutorials before posting questions here about 'not seeing their microphone' or 'no sound out of MC' type posts. The help and information there really does answer a lot of the beginner questions that we also try to answer here (but without making assumptions about their setup). Check them out for yourself at http://www.cakewalk.com/CakeTV/Music-Creator.aspx . These really are good. The Cakewalk University tutorials are quite a bonus as well.

I've watched one of those video tutorials, but not the rest. I keep meaning to get to the rest of them for evaluation, but so far life has been pretty busy. the one complaint I had so far about the video tutorial I watched was that it was difficult to read what was on the screen at the default size, but if you went to full screen mode you couldn't read it either because the resolution was too poor and everything was "out of focus" I've shared that review so far with cakewalk.
