New Toy

My Fireface UFX has arrived.  Still sitting on the kitchen counter, wrapped in cellophane.  I know, when I first begin the process of opening it, my life is taken, for at least the next four hours.  And then many more hours, after that.  Finding a moment when I have no other committments for the next four hours, is the challenge.  Also, I bought it under the promise that it will "change everything".  Firewire and USB.  60 channels.  USB backup recording (or live recording at gigs).  Works with my old XP machine (the one currently populated with two Delta 1010 PCI cards).  My new Win 7 machine (the one that doesn't have PCI slots).  My MacBook Pro (the one I bought to enable me to program the iPad, but for which I haven't bought ProTools yet).  $2000 worth of buyer's remorse to overcome.  A great deal of remorse.   Am wondering if it can live up to that.  Am so very torn....

    Is it working out?

I'm thinking I may get one because I miss using my laptop as a DAW.

Laughing so hard the kitchen sink...then I get lost.  Snot runs out of my nose?  The K is elusive though.  Arghh.  At work they make me provide an acronym list when I do this...

The kitchen sink runs out of your nose?  Ahhhh, for some reason I didn't see that coming.  Must need more expensive vodka in my Sunday Bloody Mary :-)

Mike, I have it out of the box, and sitting on top of my effects rack.  Am building up courage to plug it in, and record a vocal track or two.  Of course, if it stutters, I'm going to blame X1B, and ask for a U.N. No Fly Zone over Boston...

    Corrective course of action (IMHO).

Mike, for info have been testing various flavors of USB sticks and drives with the public alpha firmware (CW should take note imho).  This adds stand-alone record, or separate record backup capability, one of the major reasons I bought the UFX.  Have found a PNY 16GB stick that works, which should easily give me enough space for 4 tracks and a 4 hour gig, at 96/24, if my math is correct.  Haven't done any serious recording on it yet, but plan on doing that this week.  So far, have apparently gotten exactly what was advertised...

If you ship it to me the remorse will be gone overnight. GUARANTEED!

I can't say fairer than that.
