New User X1 Drum Issue

Ok, so I'm trying to add some drum tracks to a new project and running into some issues.

First is if I select a drum pattern in the drum kit it plays fine.  But when I add it to the track it doesn't play all the drums.  It randomly skips different instruments in the rhythm.

So I thought I'd use the Step Sequencer to build my own rhythm.  Well say I put a kick beat on the first step of each beat and hit the play button it will randomly play the steps and then skip some.

So.....do I have something configured wrong???  Or am I just losing my mind???

Any help would be appreciated.

I have been adding some of my drum loops from other CD's I boughta few years ago. Some play fine and some don't. I did notice that I get some weirdness (static, blips, and odd noises usually on the downbeat) if I don't make sure the BPM on the loop is the same as on the recorder. When I start messing with the BPM on the recorder that seems to be when the trouble starts. I also notice that I have several different formats of wavs. I'm hoping someone where will give us a few tips on what to avoid with drum loops and some general trouble shooting tips.
As long as you don't manually change the BPM setting on the recorder, does the recorder always default to the BPM that the beat has listed?
What formats will not play on Sonar, and-or what is the preferred loop format?

It wouldn't hurt to raise the buffer--that's the first place to start--but it did not resolve the issue for me.  Drums were the first place I noticed MIDI instruments (external and VIs) dying.

I am starting to see a lot of posts that all seem related to the issue noted here: MIDI and VIs Dying: Work-Around

    Hey thanks everyone.

I tried increasing the first buffer setting and same issue.  Then I saw the Prepare Using Buffers setting, increased that and all is well.

Thanks for all the advice and posts.  :)
