Thanks guys, for your help..
I just went out and bought a Logitech wireless touchpad from microcenter, I was able to control the pad movement as I wanted, it worked 1,2,3 but there's really no difference from my trackball , so I will be returning this, I thought I would be able move the xy pad freely which I can but the left button on the pad needs to be depressed and sliding the movement around with one hand while holding down the button dosen't give me the precise movement Im looking for. I can live with the mouse..

WHYZ,

I have the euphonic/avid artist control and I use the V-Control... I don't think that the V-control is quite the same. Not having actual knobs really limits the usefulness of the surface in my opinion. I use it as a wireless remote all the time...

I really love actual knobs for EQ. I can close my eyes and dial in a sound. That's tougher on the V-Control.

just my 2 cents...

No, this isn't our product. It's by Neyrinck and we simply helped them with some SONAR compatibility issues with their product.

SP

Ah gotcha. Does that mean there is no future for SONAR availability on Macs? I'm a happy SONAR user on my Windows 7 system, so its just a matter of curiosity

Neyrinck's compatibility with SONAR really has nothing to do with what OS SONAR runs on now or in the future. Their ipad app is just a control surface app for SONAR, not a DAW or anything like that. As for SONAR running on other OS's in the future, that's not something I can comment on.

SP
Can you comment on whether Cakewalk/Roland will release/have plans to release a dedicated iPad controller for Sonar of their own creation and SPECIFICALLY written for Sonar operation?

i have the 100 if i need real knobs. this will allow me to cover the basics when doing my own recordings. after looking at the vids i cant justify the $3700. to myself let alone my wife. i think this fits exactly what i need in my setup.

It's just a different way of operating and you just have to get use to it.

Neb,
I with you on the difference, to me it's just not as easy. I found hand placement was very critical when operating the V-Control for things other than faders and transport.

WHYZ,
It sounds like a great combo use both together. I don't have $3700 laying around to blow on a interface/surface either...

I really can't live without my Ipad in general. I use it for the video side of my business for many, many tasks... Teleprompter, slate, on-set shot logging, back-focus chart, and more.

I use it for V-Control and a scratch pad for demo's before I record in the big DAW on the audio side.

Anyway... have fun with the new setup!

Cheers,
Dave

Now I'm actually considering buying an iPad for this app alone.
My question is can I get away with the smallest GB pad or does it require the 32 or 64 version?

Is there an app like this for the iPhone 4s? I really only want it for arming a track and transport control.

I'm running on the cheapest (lowest memory, non-4G) new iPad. AC-7 Core is available for the iPhone as AC-7 Core Mini. V-Control is not available for the iPhone. ps Neyrinck says that a retina display version of V-Control Pro should be available in May. I hadn't noticed any deficiency on my new iPad related to the display, though.

Thank you sir.
That will hold me till I get the extra $600 for an iPad.

I still have to explain to the little lady why I needed another mic & mic pre combo this week.

She didn't buy the old "it's the guitar players gear but he get's it delivered here because this is where we record" bit.
That worked for the guitar amp and stand but I suspect that she now knows that's BS too.

Yes Undo and Rewind to start would be so useful. Is there likely to be this type of functionality in the future - I realise you can do this with v-window.

The only experimenting I did changing defaults in V-Control Pro is to reprogram F8 in the EDIT screen to Rewind to Start. Works great. Update about the retina display upcoming patch: Neyrinck says this will improve the appearance of the sliders. Again, I don't see how this is any problem now. Neyrinck also said the earlier iPad versions (1 & 2) run V-Control just fine.

maybe someone here can help me ....

I got the v window to work and it recognizes my computer. I could see sonar and work with  sonar in the v window view on the IPAD which is awesome.

But the faders don't work  or anything in V-control

It's weird. Why can it see sonar in the v window and I can use it that way ..... But not the faders or anything else.

I've been trouble shooting this for a few weeks now.

The v control is reconized and checked in midi devices in and outs.

In SONAR, not only do the V-control choices have to be recognized in MIDI Devices, but then you must go to Control Surface, choose Mackie-Control 1, and select V-Control under the In and Out. Did you do this? Did you check, is the Bonjour service running?

I realize you need a Network or wifi to get these apps to work, Is there a way to set these apps up without connecting my daw to the internet.

The computer must be on the network, but doesn't necessarily have to be on the Internet.  You should be able to use your router to disallow Internet access for your DAW while still leaving it on the network.

I wouldn't worry about connecting to the internet, I have my main DAW connected to the internet all the time even when I am recordging, it's all myth's and fairies about some great big nasty virus is going to eat your computer. Just don't accept that offer of marriage from that russian saying she is a princess.

Welllll, that depends.  A properly protected computer isn't at much risk from a random attack (firewall, virus protection, etc.)  But there are still good reasons for disconnecting from the Internet.  Some background services routinely reach out to the Internet, which can sometimes spike the processor or disk access.  Plus, all that anti-virus crap is horrible about interrupting the system...so you'll want to disable it, and that means you probably want to disable the Internet, as well, at least while you're working.

I admit I leave the Internet on sometimes, too, but there have been times I've regretted it (catching a spike right in the middle of recording the perfect take, for example).  So, I prefer to minimize the risk whenever possible.  Naturally, YMMV.

Yeah Ian, I pretty much just wanted an iPad.

Glad I got one too. I only use it for recording type stuff.
My latest use has been for loading all my Groove3 and SWA videos on it and being able to watch them anywhere, anytime.
I travel between my house and my girlfriends house all the time and it's nice to grab my pad and headphones and hit the road.
That way while she goes off on one of her many cleaning frenzies I can watch some more of Karls 9 hour video .
Garage Band gets a little attention too and V-Control Pro is very handy to have over by the keyboards and drums too.

Expensive and overkill?........ Of course.
Fill my G.A.S needs?............. Yeah, for a few days lol.

Try deleting ctrlsurface.dat and ttseq.ini in your Sonar directory with Sonar closed.
Start Sonar and it will recreate these files.
Add V-Control as a controller surface.

I had been using AC-7 for some time with no issues but I really disliked the fact that I could not see the meter levels in real time. I just got V-Control today and had no problem installing it and getting it work with Sonar. I can see the meter levels with the V-Window but one thing that troubles me is that I cannot see the same information with the normal console view. Any hints how to enable this utility so that I don't have to use the V-Window to see the real time audio level info?

I found the solution to my problem. I am assuming you have it working already and it is defined as a Mackie Control surface. All you have to do is go to the Utilities menu and then select Mackie Control 01 (or whatever it is that is associated with this) and then in the options turn metering display on. It defaults to "off." It then works great. Very cool stuff.

Re:New V-Control Pro iPad Controller for SONAR 2013/01/15 20:44:56 (permalink)
maybe this is covered but I can't get the free version to work.  I'm using X1 on a laptop.  I installed the newest Neyrinck utility on the laptop.  I have the newest OS for the iPad.  I notice in the settings for VControl the computer is set to "None".  I can't get this to change.  Any suggestions?

I'm not in front of SONAR to give the steps, but there is a screen in Preferences where you select your devices, and the V-Control must first be selected there for it to appear as a pull-down choice in Control Surfaces.

The V-Control is not an option.  I used "Mackie Control" per the instructions (as the control surface).  I do see the V-Control in the next two boxes.  But still not working.

I am using the paid version so I am not sure if that is what would make a difference.

Just as an aside, I got AC-7 Core to show the meters by changing the same option in the Utilities menu for the Mackie Control Surface as for V-Control for those of you that only want to (or have) spend $7 instead of $50.
