New VS-700 setup

Received the vs700, so many drivers I'm not sure where to start. The disks that were shipped are obviously well outdated. I'm on the cake site sorting through the list and I just have a bad feeling that I'm going to do something out of order.

first you need to check on which firmware you are. mine was also a b-stock display exhibit, so it came with the latest firmware (1.3x) which made life a lot easier ...

how can you tell what firmware is installed? There are older and newer drivers available and i'm getting lost on which ones i need to install first. Somewhere I read that one of the dip switches needs to be switched off in order to install new firmware........I need a decoder ring to figure this out.

it's not all that complicated ... but you need to read up a bit

    start here: http://www.cakewalk.com/Support/kb/reader.aspx/2007013195

the dip switch stuff is easy ... just do it to figure out which firmware

    then read this: http://www.cakewalk.com/support/kb/pages/VS700_Installation.aspx

feel free to ask if something in the instructions is not clear :-)

It is a bit complicated. Look at the dates of the updates release. Plus, what version of Sonar are you using now, and installing? Your best ( and easiest ) bet is to get Roland on the phone and have them give a list of what to put in first and the order. Also important is whether you're using 32 bit or 64bit Sonar. The Fantom Synth is 32 bit, it works in both but is better in 32 bit. Your version of Sonar and the subsequent updates are important for the VS700 System, so you have a lot identifying and updating to do to both. I'm using Sonar X1d Expanded, so my update versions are 1.30 and 1.31. Put the Sonar updates in first. But like I said, your best bet is to get the list, based on your version of Windows and Sonar, from Roland.

Oh, and put the I/O Editor in. It will tell you which versions of the updates you are running.

Trying to update the console updater to v1.31 I follow all of the instructions step by step just as the v1.31 readme file indicates. But when I click on send the file sending window on the computer goes through its normal motions and it appears to be sending like it's supposed to be and the message after the transfer say complete but the percentage indicator on the console display does not budge from 0%. I have my rack connected to the console and the rack is connected via usb to the computer I also have a usb cable connected to the console into the computer. Where am I going wrong.

With all my v studio contents there is a book and a disk marked REAC Recording system. Does this need to be installed?

Just an observation.......there should be a note saying do not install the VS-700R into your rack until all updates are completed. Stupid dip switches.

Fully updated. I think I could have figured out how to launch a missile easier than that was. Anyway, I'm impressed with the operation of this machine. I have a lot to learn though. Thanks for all the guidance.

I can't find the Fantom in my sfz listing. Ran a scan also. Not sure what I need to do.

I bought one of those little tiny computer screwdrivers. On the back of your console flip up the very first one, closest to the left as you face it. The DIP switch that is. Then turn on the console and your version will show up in the display.
I just got a new computer and had to update my console, but it was a lot less painful than I had feared.

Edit : I see that all is well. Sorry to be superfluous.
