New X1 Studio user from 3.01, how to do different simple MIDI tasks?

Hello,

I have been using Cakewalk 3.01 since 1995, for MIDI-programming.
Now i will try to take a big step to X1 Studio.

But already now im a little stressed over the workflow about doing so
simple stuff as copying some bars.

When i try do to that on let´s say the drum-track, i mark the bars and do CTRL+C and
and go the bar where i want to paste to, i do then CTRL+V and now the
stuff comes to an entire different track, and i HAVE highlighted the track im working on.
What ¿ !

In my old 3.01 the bars are showed as "DOTS" in an ugly grid, but the task was no
worries easy peasy

Another thing, i don´t seem to find view shorcuts to fast go from one screen to another,
it seemes all screens just lies in layers and you have to make them bigger and smaller just
to see them, and thats done by mouse. Is there an easy way to make the track view fill
out the whole screen, and next the event-view full screen etc....?

I have ProTools 9 for the audio jobs, so i need to get the MIDI basics running on X1.
Hope to find some help here :o)

Pvk.

If you use copy/paste there is a dialog that lets you choose what track you paste too.

Someone recently mentioned that the dialog isn't always popping up... so that may be part of what is causing your confusion.

I assume you are working in Track View.

I have become accustomed to using Split clip and drag and drop functions in Track view... maybe that sort of process would suit your taste?

I also enjoy using PRV for working with MIDI especially when copying and pasting, although I recognize that if you really just want to copy a few bars that the track view is much more efficient and so frequently when I am in PRV I go out to track view to quickly do just that. I'll drag ad drop a few bars down the line and then go back into PRV. I find using both for what they are best at to be very quick and easy.

I know I didn't really answer your question... but perhaps it will help you as you transition from v3 to X1.

I'll leave the window size question unanswered for someone else to offer their favorite method.

    best regards,
    mike

Had the same issue with the copy / paste.   The only solution I've found is to de-select all tracks before you paste, then select the track you want to paste to and do ctrl+v.    Also, I don't see any Paste dialog box like before.   SONAR used to ask where you wanted to paste and how many repetitions.   Doesn't seem to do so any more with ctrl+v, so I also have to make sure my "now" pointer is where I want the paste to occur.   Not a great solution, but it works OK.

Ctrl+Alt+V opens the paste (Paste Special) dialog box.

Ctrl+Alt+V opens the paste (Paste Special) dialog box.

    +1

In previous version of Sonar Ctrl + V would open the dialog before pasting. In X1 Ctrl + V simply does a paste while adding the alt gives you the option to customize the settings.

Don't fix it in the mix ... Fix it in the take!
