New X3 User Needs Rescued

Hi,

I have several .MID files that contain one or more BANK/PATCH events per track. But I want them to REMAIN bank/patch events in the events view of each track. I don't want X3 to convert them to Patch fields in the track parameters!

Please help! I don't have time to manually insert all of these!

    Have you tried right clicking on your midi file and selected "Open with/ Sonar"?

    That is precisely how I opened it. I half recall this happening in X1 but forgot how I got around it. It's somewhat presumptuous of SONAR to assume you want to convert the MIDI event into a function that should only every be associated with a CWP file. But it's NOT a CWP file it's just a lowly MIDI type 1 file.

    Did I really just spend $100 and the past 8 or so hours loading and configuring this behemoth so I could be faced with setting 100s of Bank and Patch boxes to Null and then re-inserting the Bank/Patch events THAT WERE ALL ALREADY THERE!!?

    maybe "File-Import-Midi" will work. Were they originally sonar files from a previous version?
    were they from another program? if so, see if that program will do a "File-Export-OMF"
    then just open up the exported OMF file in sonar. i worked with a guy who had protools and i saved as an omf, emailed it to him, then he opened it up in protools with all the tracks in their place. there are some limitations, but in your case it might work. hope i'm not off your topic, hope you get your tracks up.

    Maybe it's the type of midi file? I forget how it works but there are several types that work differently. Hopefully someone will chime in and explain it better.

    Does SONAR actually remove the bank/patch change events from the file on import? IOW, can you still see them in the Event List? AFAIK, SONAR doesn't remove any data from the MIDI track, although I've never imported a MIDI file that I didn't export myself from another SONAR project.

    All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

    I just opened an older midi file, from 1994, yesterday and had all of my patches still in the track and did not go to the track parameter. I did pull the midi file up in the explorer first though. I did the right click open with SONAR process.

    Thanks for the input. I appreciate it.

    These are all Type 1 MIDI files from SONAR X1. Import doesn't work. The bank patch is not in the event list. It is in the track panel to the left. The underlying MID file may vary well contain this bank patch event but it makes the incorrect assumption that just because it's the first patch change in the track that it can move it to the beginning of the track. But I have sysex at the beginning of the track that sets my XS7 in either Voice, Performance or Pattern mode. The patch change needs to happen AFTER the mode change! The other problem is that it sort of assumes that each track will only every have one instrument. It's just whacked. I almost certain I solved this problem before but I can't recall how. I guess I'll scour my support emails.

    knew I had solved this before. Here is the tech support email. I haven't actually tried it in X3 yet but I'd imagine it should work.

    Hello Jeff,

    Thank you for contacting Cakewalk Technical Support.  Find the file TTSSEQ.ini by going to Start | Search for All Files and Folders. Now double click on it. Next, add or change the following lines under the [Options] Section

    IgnoreMidiInTimeStamps=1
    TranslateRPN=0
    GeneralMidiSMFs=0

    Save the file and restart SONAR.

    >XS7 to Performance mode. The control change waits a bit for the Sysex to execute and then does a bank patch change. When I execute this as a CWP file it works fine repeatedly. But when I save it as a MIDI Format 1 file (which I need for another app to load it) it STILL works just fine.. UNTIL I exit SONAR and attempt to re-load the MIDI version of the file. Then for some reason, SONAR blows away my entire event list, converts the sysex to an auto-load sysex, assigns the bank and patch settings in the track details instead of the event list. Trouble is - I want ALL of these things to happen ONLY AFTER I start the sequence, NOT before on auto load!! I think the bank/patch stuff might actually happen upon sequence start but the sysex which changes modes on my XS7 is happening on load of the MIDI file. The external app that consumes the MIDI files also tries to auto-load everything. Can you PLEASE tell me why this is happening and how to make it not happen? Is this something that SONAR is doing? Do I need to upgrade to Producer or to a later version of Studio to get it to not corrupt my files?
