"New York City Cowboy"

Hey Guys....

Here's a tune I just finished recording...Singer/Songwriter tune called "New York City Cowboy"...

Steve Altonian

http://www.soundclick.com/stevealtonian

“NEW YORK CITY COWBOY”

Late December morning, rain is pouring
But life don’t stop in the city that never sleeps
He steps off the subway, ain’t going nowhere
Wipes his boots off and heads down Second Street

This ain’t no town to be alone
But sometimes you can’t go home---can’t go home

(CHORUS):
He’s a “NEW YORK CITY COWBOY” slinging guitar
He believes in God and still sings songs of love
Born and raised in Nashville
But that was oh so many lifetimes ago
He’s a “NEW YORK CITY COWBOY”

He thinks about her, and life without her
The life they had before Jesus took her home
He was her childhood sweetheart, her white knight in armor
He keeps her picture tucked inside his coat

Oh the tears pour down in the rain
Things will never be the same---be the same

(CHORUS):
He’s a “NEW YORK CITY COWBOY” slinging guitar
He believes in God and still sings songs of love
Born and raised in Nashville
But that was oh so many lifetimes ago
He’s a “NEW YORK CITY COWBOY”

This ain’t no town to be alone
But sometimes you can’t go home ---can’t go home

(CHORUS):
He’s a “NEW YORK CITY COWBOY” slinging guitar
He believes in God and still sings songs of love
Born and raised in Nashville
But that was oh so many lifetimes ago
He’s a “NEW YORK CITY COWBOY”
He’s a “NEW YORK CITY COWBOY”
He’s a “NEW YORK CITY COWBOY”

c) 2005 Steve Altonian

Beautiful production – loved the sound of the those violins – please tell me they are real, if they’re not, that means I have to buy some new software.

I listened to both tunes – again solid productions and pure C&W. Felt like I should be sitting at a table and lamenting a long lost love.

    Great job.

Not my cup of tea, but it sounds pretty good.

Might I suggest that you fix your soundclick page though, its nearly impossible to read.

Good song with a good voice to match man. Nice, clear mix. Would you mind elaborating on the production of this song? I enjoyed it! Oh, Foxwolfen is right about your SC page... made me go cross-eyed!!

Those are the real deal.....I couldn't fake that....maybe a string section but not a single violin...Gotta fight the urge to add violin to my next tune......LOL

    Thanks for your time

Thanks for the time....The music track was recorded by my current producer in Nashville....He hired the session players I need and is really quite good at what he does....Can't really speak for his set-up....This is the first time we've worked together....

I have a tendency to micro manage my producers but ONLY up to a point..........I INSIST ON WHAT I PERSONALLY HAVE TO HAVE IN THE TUNE....AND THEN GIVE THEM FREE REIGN TO USE THEIR TALENTS....I was smart enough for the most part to stay out of the way on this one...

I cut the vocal here at a studio where I do most of my vocals here in Los Angeles......I used a Nuemann U-87 along with an AVALON pre-amp.....

    Glad you enjoyed it

Thanks for the details Steve! The reason I asked is because the mix and performance is very pro sounding! Thanks for humoring me. Again, excellent song.

Good song and production. My personal preference would have been to kick the bass up in the mix a few db. Otherwise a good job.

I agree on the SC page...hard to see.

I like the piano :-) Love the acoustic "fiddle" (great playing and great tone) and that pedal steel, the backups, everything, man this really sounds like something I “should” hear on the radio. It’s every bit as good as anything and better than most of it.

If I could offer anything, I’d warm up your vocals a bit and make them a bit “wetter”, or maybe not, it may be perfect already.

Sorry about the SC page but I like the Santa Monica Pier and the Beach action...........It's a trade-off to be sure....

I have a new mix that was enhanced....While the bass wasn't adjusted it is more prominant because of the enhancement....Let me know if this works for you DB-wise

    Peace

    Steve,

Sweet. Nice lyrics, mix, very nice all around. Good vocals too.

If you're looking to sell songs or make connections in Nashville (maybe you already have them) check with my buddy in Nashville, he's a studio and A&R guy there and they are always looking for new CW tunes.

You can contact him on his web site: www.danschafer.com He used work with Barbra Mandrell, Lorrie Morgan, and toured with Shania Twain. He's a big connection in Nashville if you need it. Tell him I sent you.

    Again, very nice.
