New alt rock song "Holiday"

Any comments on my song "Holiday" would be appreciated. It's a bit of an alt rock, maybe grunge tune recorded with my Digitech GNX4 and Sonar 7.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Holiday

Thanks
Robert Anthony

Hey Robert, I really enjoyed this tune. Your mix is very full and clean. Love the tones and verb used on the guitar. Your vox sounds great nice and clear along with your harmonies. GREAT JOB my friend.

Hi Robert, first off I really like this tune! Kind of a dark grungy feel (in a good way), One thing that caught my ear though was the high hat sounded a little hot particuarly in the chourus. When I saw the title Holiday I was expecting a warm and fuzzy Christmas tune so this was a cool trip (not that there is anything wrong with warm and fuzzy christmas tunes!) but this was well done.

    Anthony.
Dude, I'm diggin' this tune big time.
There's really NOTHING about it I DON'T like!!!!
I'd love to hear how you created that sense of space.

    Bravo!!!!!!

Hey guys, thanks for the replies. Yeah, it's a little dark, I can't seem to get away from writing these kinds of songs. Rocky, I did tame the hats a bit in the chorus but I think you're right- they seem to muddy up the drums a little. I still can't get a hold of midi drums, they sounded ok in mixing but when I added compression in the final master bus I couldn't keep it from sounding distant and somewhat over-verbed. Something to do with attack or release; it's something I have to work on.
Spindle, as far as the space, this is the first tune on which I used a template I found on the forum-you've probably seen it, it's from a member Jsarus-here's a link to it Mixing template. It helped me with more efficient sends and routing, and as far as the percieved space, I think it has something to do with a bus that takes the entire mix, one left, one right, with a volume of -INF., and goes not to the master, but to the soundcard. Weird, huh?

I picked up on that little timing glitch @:08, but then it all smoothed out. A moody sort of feel to this. I think you've captured that 'grunge-rock' vibe here. To my ears, you've nailed this genre.

Thanks for the listen, lhansen. Yeah, at :08 is a little hammer on, a bit slower than the one repeated on the next phrase. Just quirky things I like to make it sound unique; however, if it sounds out of time, "unique" is just bad, huh? I'll take a fresh listen in a couple of days after I get it out of my head.

    Thanks for the input,
    Happy Holidays

I like it. I agree with the above comment about the high hat on the chorus and guitar break. It's really prominent. The song itself is good and has a nice vibe to it and the vocal melody is really nice.

Droddey, thanks for the input. Too much of a chorus send on the hats; I thought it would brighten it up a bit.

    Thanks again

Hang on, let me strap on a set of phones and give an honest opinion.

Blue, this is some dark stuff... And that comes from someone who does things to people for money? Things that are best left "loosely defined..."

The groove and vibe are cool, but this is dark stuff...

Any comments on my song "Holiday" would be appreciated. It's a bit of an alt rock, maybe grunge tune recorded with my Digitech GNX4 and Sonar 7.

    Any feedback would be appreciated.

    Holiday

Hey man, good job on the mix.

My only major suggestion is to remove some from 200 or 250hz from the clean guitars and electric guitars to get rid of that rumble/mud. I can't tell you the exact frequency but cut around there until it sounds balanced a bit.

You might need to cut some of that mud from the bass too.

My Latest Give it a listen and rate it please!

Thanks for the comments. I guess it is a little dark, most of my tunes tend to go that way. Thanks for the eq tips, egervari, Ill check it out around 200. Without looking, I'm pretty sure I boosted the guitars a 3-4, so good ears, I might have gone too far, as well as with the bass. EQing is still a bit of a problem for me.
    Thanks again,
