New and needing some help: arpeggiator and more

Hey everyone!

So I plugged in the disk and set up a while back but I never got into the nitty gritty of this program until today (busy busy). I'm looking through it and playing with some of the plug-ins etc. with my MIDI device and had some trouble using studio instruments with the arpeggiator effect and using it with say the violin from SI. Is it not possible or am I missing something?

Now the other question.

I really enjoy bands like Owl City and the Ready set etc. I think they use digital music in a nice and creative way but how can you recreate a similar arrangement?

I know from experience that Owl City uses Reason 4 (probably 5 now) but I'm looking for something not only user friendly (I'm a computer geek whose lucky to be able to turn one on! but I'm not afraid to fiddle for a while) but also WALLET friendly. I was looking into FL Studio 9 (I think the producer edition) and noticed you CAN use it as a rewire device and thought that may be a good option. I've also looked around at Sonar's other options but I'm interested in hearing your recommendations.

Thank you for any help!
Shawn

Did you insert the arpeggiator in the MIDI track or the synth track?

When I set up the track I set it up as a MIDI track with Studio Instruments. When I clicked effects to find the arpeggio feature it was not available to click. However, when I set it up with the standard "piano" sound through cakewalks window it worked fine.

Does the effect not work when you are using a plug-in?

I don't have Sound Center so I don't know if it works the same as the VSTis I have used.
In most cases, when you insert a synth, it will insert a MIDI track and a synth track (unless you have the "Create MIDI Source Track" box unchecked in the Insert options).
Any MIDI effects have to be put in the MIDI track's effects bin.
Next time I crank up the DAW, I'll see how the arpeggiator works with the synths I have. The only time I played with it, I was using my keyboard for sounds, not a soft synth.

Lat night I used the arpeggiator with every soft synth I have (TTS-1, Triangle II, Square 1, Edirol VSC, Roland Groove Synth, Proteus VX and Dimension LE {didn't try DropZone or Session Drummer 2}) and it worked perfectly in all of them.
