New "cheap" Libraries from Hollow Sun and Hideaway Studios

Just received a couple emails about new stuff from Steve at Hollow Sun.
Cronk - O - Tron
http://www.hollowsun.com/HS2/mlmlite/cronkotron/index.htm

Demo sounds interesting and as it's only 2.50 pounds, well probably shall!

Dan at Hideaway also has a few new cheapies. I've already purchased these ones - the Cosmic Music Box sounds good but is expensive at ....3.50!!!!!! Well I joke of course, its ridiculously cheap and sounds great.

+1 on Hollow Sun and Hideaway products.  Excellent vintage, retro, pre-old school relics with big bang for the buck.  This new "lite" line is even less expensive than their other gizzmos and gadgets from ye old'  past.  Cheap? yes, but QUALITY for the price of a cup of jo.

Here is a blurb from the new product Cronk-O-Tron:

Cronk-O-Tron (as the name suggests) is a cheap and cheerful thing with a dark and crusty old tone. It’s made up of layers of stuff carefully blended to create a vintage/retro kind of strings/voice pad sound – lo-fi and wobbly.

Great stuff - The Cosmic Music Box is really good, I am sure i will find a use for it. And Cronk-O-Tron is really organic and capable of a wide range of sounds, for the price of a regular Americano.

Yes, and the demo track suggests this might be the best Hideaway offering yet.

Since there are some real Hollow Sun fans here, let me repeat for those who missed it.  You can read an extensive interview with Stephen Howell (Mr. Hollow Sun) here:

He's an extremely interesting fellow, IMO, and although it's a long interview, he's got some great stories to tell.

I love the Hollow Sun and Hideaway Studio stuff.  It's been perfect for some retro-futuristic music that I'm working on.  The sounds have a wonderful gritty, classic sci-fi vibe to them that I love, but they're a whole lot more versatile than just that.

Another developer in the same vein is Rhythmic Robot, also in the UK.  What is it with the UK and classic sci-fi anyway?  It must be the Doctor Who influence.

We've updated our Bass Station FreePack ...

My scriptmeister, Mario, and I were chatting (well, Skyping) the other day and we thought it might be a good idea to update the Bass Station FreePack.

This FreePack was made a good while back. My good friend, Dan McCullough, in the US had sampled his original Bass Station and Super Bass Station quite extensively and donated them to me. At first, it was just a basic Kontakt instrument, then I learnt a bit of Kontakt scripting (kind of ... just about) which added more functionality but now, with Mario in tow, it seemed a good idea to update it to Kontakt 4.2.4. And here it is...

It's quite functional with a highpass filter (for maybe thinning sounds out a bit), a resonant lowpass filter and an ADSR amplitude envelope. There's a simple vibrato LFO and glide/portamento but arguably the core of this little beauty is the UNISON section where voices can be stacked, detuned and spread across the stereo panorama for truly powerful basses. And there's a simple EQ section for rounding off the sound. There are also various play modes - mono/poly, single (or legato)/multiple triggering and more. It's simple but very effective and all manner of bass and leadline sounds can be coaxed out of it.

But most of all, it sounds great and best of all, perhaps, it's free - yes ... totally free!! 30 presets of belting and solid basslines suitable for all manner of genres and very tweakable.

    DETAILS
    Cheers,

    Stephen
