New empty Midi-Clip

Sorry for asking such a basic question.
Searched the manual + forum, but didn't find an answer.
I want to write a simple midi-track only using the mouse.
To do so, I need an empty midi-clip (I think).

How to ?

Well, you can use the staff view or the piano roll view (PRV). I prefer the PRV, myself but many others use the Staff, or both.

One easy way to get there is to click the number of the Midi track to select it and then click either the button with the little keyboard icon (PRV) or the staff lines icon (Looks like a four legged E). You can also use the Views menu at the top to open the view you want.

Once a clip has been created you can double click the clip to open the PRV. That can be changed to open the Staff view on double click if you so prefer.

    thanks for your fast answer.

I was used to Cubase, and thought you'd have to produce an empty clip first.

I haven't used a non-Cakewalk music program since Bars and Pipes. Probably a good thing. I like to keep things simple.

You may have a point there.
I was coming back on making music on PC about 3 month ago.
Since then I've been trying out an awful lot of stuff.
You really spend more time on figuring out how things work than actually use it.

Looks like Sonar could be the place where I stay.
Just have to make the hard decision if it's gonna be X1 Essential or Studio.

Now brightening daylight (here in Germany) tells me that bedtime is overdue.

    cheers

If you don't get studio you will probably end up wishing you had.
