New forum look...

What do you think of the new look.....


and.... it looks like no more "color" ratings ....we're all SUPER MEMBERS to boot.

We hates it.  It takes up too much screen real estate.  It's harder to navigate.
 
I imagine the change was necessary to help combat the spambots.  The code verification process will keep the autobots from getting access but there will be a few who will take the time to enter the code manually.  I have to verify and allow membership to my forum.  Most new registrations are spammers.  I manually do a search on new members to verify their activity on other forums.  If they don't actively participate or they are listed in the stop spam sites, they don't get posting priviledges.

we now get 25 PM spaces too!

maybe because there was some minor grumblings about status and posts? hey I think now there may be a "rep" or thumbs up/down on posts becasue of the reward points thing?

I don't care for it myself for the same reasons that Dave (Modbod) mentioned.  but...change is inevitable.

No.  I don't like change all that much.  But I suppose I'll get used to it.  I thought I was gonna die if the forums didn't get up and running soon though!

In fact - since bapu, Stevestrummer, Jonbouy and spacecowboy aren't here yet, I have to assume the worst!  that they died of forum deprivation!!!

Not too crazy about the new layout, but it's quite similar to other forums so I'm sure I'll get used to it.

First dislike: the user name and avatar box is wider, which means that when I zoom in to where I like (for my bad eyes), the posts' text now scrolls off the screen, requiring a lower zoom level and making the text harder to read.

Second dislike: the message dialog cannot be dragged to my other screen. That makes it harder to reference the thread you're replying to, requiring you to drag the dialog to the side to copy and paste text from another post or another page. The edit and reply buttons also slide off the screen.

Third dislike: when typing long replies, it's necessary to scroll the dialog down which moves the toolbar out of the viewable region, so you have to do a lot of up-and-down scrolling to format text or insert message icons. Learn the keyboard shortcuts.

Fourth dislike: the spellchecker does not work well. I just ran it against the above text, and it suggested that "toolbar" should be spelled "tollbar". Did CJ write this spellchecker? Furthermore, after closing the spell check dialog, the reply dialog defaults to its original size, which is rather small.

Minor bug: "<message edited by bitflipper on 0 mins. ago>" is sloppy programming. Just say "last edit: 0 mins. ago" and don't attempt to make it grammatically-sensible.

However, they did fix an annoying bug in the reply dialog: when you format text (e.g. italic or bold), the textbox no longer scrolls back to the top but remains in place.

they all part of the band.. so they just reverted to group emails

look on the bright side.. hopefully it will get rid of the spammers for a start.. must have taken them a fair while to do changes with the forum also.

Actually I just noticed that I can't see to find the "reply to <>" that was on the old forum.
I had replied to Fog on this one.

There's a whole rake of options in the User Control Panel it seem a lot less clunky than the old one.

Now we're on to gardening? I thought with this new look, we would all just get along and stay on topic.
