New from Gibson...
http://www.soundonsound.com/news?NewsID=17730 Les Paul studio monitors... I know it kind of make sense somehow, but I'm not so sure. I love a nice burst Les Paul, and I dig good monitors, but I'm not sure about a mix of both. Doesn't Gibson own KRK anyway? At any rate, I guess we shouldn't worry - either they'll be very successful and Gibson will discontinue them, or then, they'll raise the exorbitant price on those by another whooping 30% in 6 months...

I can see KRK all over those puppies. Ports on the front and the way the tweeter is shaped seem familiar. I love the look of a burst and would rather pay for wood than plastic, but those monitors look pretty pimped.

An excerpt from B. Owsinski's newsletter: "Gibson was showing their Les Paul line of loudspeakers, complete with a nice flamed maple top front. I asked if these were simply rebranded KRK's (a company that Gibson now owns) and was told in no uncertain terms that wasn't the case. There were 3 speakers in the line - a two way 8" ($999 each), 6" ($799 each) and 4" ($599 each). They seemed to sound OK from what I could tell on the floor, but there was no information available other than the spiel by the booth guy. I guess my big question here is "Why?"" That's $1200 for a pair of 4" drivers monitors?! You can get some pretty darn fine monitors for that kind of money - and not midgets...

those are not ungodly prices at all.. and you can certainly pay more for speakers in that size/price combination.. it ALL depends on how they sound.. if they are fantastic for the price they would sell well regardless of the cosmetics

Mr. Owsinski didn't seem to be blown away by them. The question is which market are they aiming at?

https://soundcloud.com/sonic-sense-pro-audio/sets/studio-monitors Does not mean that I am going to buy Event Opals at $15** when I can buy something else that costs less and sound just about as good. Considering that people consider the JBLs new speakers to sound excellent for the price. (at 10th the price about). You can also listen to this or something similar, but don't expect an electronic tuning guitar to match frequencies. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_IBXRwORO2o What a world! (Oh, Jezebel Decibel gal).
