New jazz drum kit for Kontakt 4+

Smoker from Analogue Drums
http://www.analoguedrums.com/details-smoker.php

Sounds pretty good and only $29. Multiple snares/kicks/hats/rides but only two toms. Close, overhead and room microphones. Maybe not for metalheads, but should work well for pop, country and ballads as well as its stated jazz application. For heavier genres, check out their Bombastix kit (also $29).

These are the folks who give away the free Big Mono kit, which I use. But I haven't actually given them any money to date, although Bombastix has been on my wish-list for awhile.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

It does indeed sound good in the demo's....but the first track..the epiano kinda got on my nerves..LOL
It just didn't fit the "Jazz Vibe" in my head...was too far up front maybe...the other tracks were nice...

I went on down to the 'Drums Only' track fast on the first track. The drums do sound good but I just can't justify any more drums libraries.

Recently I heard a very wise man say that if you can't do what you want to do with what you already have you're probably still not going to do it by purchasing a new plugin...

That sounds like something I'd say, or at least agree with. But there are some categories where I ignore my own less-is-more rule. Such as strings and human voices. And drums.

The question isn't whether you need MORE drums, it's whether you need BETTER drums.

If a new product does a better job of realizing your musical ideas, and the price is right, then ... GET IT!!

Seriously, those audio demos sound great ... lots of excellent low-priced Kontakt drums out there these days.  I'm still digging that Frau Blücher kit I got a few weeks ago.  Good times!

    Cheers,

Well, since you were the person I was referring to, I wish you would have qualified your statement sooner...

If only ever bought what I "truly" needed...I wouldn't have much...LOL

Most DAW's come with just about everything necessary to make music...

BUT...if you want to "venture into other worlds" then you need "other" things...

Good comment. Got me thinking...what does "better" drums mean?

I was listening to some old Creedence tunes recently, and noted how awful the drums sounded. Like oatmeal boxes. With oatmeal still inside. But I couldn't imagine anything else in those songs. A deeply-sampled high-fidelity multi-miked drum library wouldn't have fit nearly as well.

I also recently pulled up an old project of mine, and was surprised at how good the drums sounded in it. I had to look to see what I'd used - surprise, it was the TTS-1 brush kit, albeit heavily processed.

One of these days I'm going to visit some of the kits that have long languished unused on my disk drive, like Session Drummer, SI-Drums and Dimension Pro. I'll bet there are some interesting possibilities lurking in there if I took the time.

Exactly Bit...it's not always the "quality" of what you have...it' HOW, the "Imagination", and the "musicality"  behind
    using it.

Hey, believe it or not, I had the same thought listening to some CCR recently.  If that's the sound you're going for, great, but if that doesn't fit with your musical vision, then "better" means something that does.

I wouldn't be surprised to find a Doug Clifford drum library out there somewhere, for those who dig the sound of oatmeal boxes.

    Cheers,
