New rock instrumental track I've been working on with a drummer friend of mine...

I've been working on this track for a while and decided to record it when my buddy came to record the drums for some other songs.

I used the Line 6 Helix for all the guitars which were recorded direct. I also tracked the bass direct with the Helix.

Drums were done with 10 mics (9 close miced and another room mic).

Tracked and mixed in Sonar Plat.

Cheers,

Peter.

Nice piece! I really like the change (chorus) at 0:55. The verse part reminds me of "A Minor Affair". A vocal line would easily adapt to this melody. I enjoyed the tones you projected with your guitar(s).

Thanks SJ. The track was actually recorded with vocals some time ago but I then adapted it to be an instrumental piece.

    Which one's Pink?

Nice chops, a pretty steady jam all the way through. Pretty awesome guitar tones. Robert Cray spanky in spots!!!  I definitely was diggin the verse a little more than the chorus - when the chorus hits the major keys, I think it loses some of the vibe and edge. Just another opinion to add to the stack!

Drummer's into it, and the guitars are super tasteful and very well played and recorded.

You have a high string pad in the background, what about swapping that out for something B-3 ish?

    nice one!

Nice one Peter. Very reminiscent of Gary Moore, excellent tones throughout.

Dam, I was going to mention Gary, RIP. There was some garyness here and there, at least in the beginning. But to BE totally uninfluenced by someone is pretty hard. I remember BB King, RIP, or was it Chuck Berry, say that he had his own style because he could not copy other guitarists. You could clearly copy other guitarists you are that good. But you are original enough based on this one sample imo. The melodies were very good and all the sounds juicy, esp. the guitar sounds.

Hey thanks for the kind comments everyone.

@emaraldsoul - Yes I would love to have some B3 on this track. I have a friend who is one of the best Hammond players in SA but unfortunately he blew the horn on his Leslie and is struggling to find a replacement.

@jamesG - Thanks for that. Yes, he is definitely and influence

@kakku - Thank you for the kind comment. As I said, GM is an influence but as you progress as a player you take little bits from everybody and develop your own style out of that.

    Cheers,

    Peter.

In the future the scientists might invent a training manual of some sort to help people to choose their influences and an percentage of those influences they want to absorb and then do the Matrix quick learning thing.

I like this a lot.  Great tones and vibrato.  Love the cleaner lead tone.  I agree with the Gary Moore comparison above.

What Tom said regarding the B3. In any case, I'd suggest turning up the bass just a little, just didn't have enough beefiness to my ears.  Maybe dirtying up the bass would help??

As usual, the guitars are awesome... :)

Oh yeah...   loved it.   Both the clean and dirty tones were exactly as I'd like to hear them and they work well off each other.  As mentioned above your vibrato is perfect for the style of tune.

    Peter,

Nice work, definitely hear some Gary Moore influences in there:)   That Helix sounds really nice, have been thinking about getting one.  Guitar licks are really excellent and overall mix is good.  I might boost the bass slightly during the louder chorus parts.   Seems to be missing a little bottom end there.

    Regards
