Hi John,

Right up my proverbial street this... Nice work

I think the only thing I would do differently, with the length of the track, is automate the cutoff and resonance of the main sequence. A bit corny, I know, but I love that kind of stuff.

While you are into similar sort of stuff to me (I'm now listening to SubMarine), I have to ask, have you tried Adaptiverb yet? It's a great effect, is somewhat expensive. But it is great for drone pads and stuff.

cheers

I liked this, quite a bit. For me, it did seem a bit like a really long intro and I kept waiting for something else to happen, but I also understand this as a Jarre/Vangelis style piece. In that vein, it was well done.

Thanks, I agree it certainly needs developing and does go on a bit ;)

I'm thinking about developing it by changing the key and maybe adding a synth lead.

I performed mixed and 'mastered' (using the term loosely) in a couple of hours, are the levels OK or can I bump it up a bit?

Just going to look up adaptiverb.

I'm using QLSpaces and Breverb atm.

Edit... it is expensive O.o

I wonder if I can emulate this somewhat with FX chains...going to experiment thanks for the inspiration :)

Hi John,

Listening to a few more of your pieces now... Just getting a feeling of what you are doing. Some real nice stuff on your page, I must say. I have followed you so if you upload any new stuff I will see it.

Regarding Adaptiverb...

I too use Breverb. I still use Breverb, all the time, even when I have Adaptiverb in a project. The way I look at it, Adaptiverb is more of an instrument than a reverb. I would never consider it as a replacement for Breverb.

I agree, it is, in my opinion, too expensive at full price. I bought it just as it was released and there was a deal on it. I was hooked within less than an hour. Might be worth waiting until they have it on sale again. That said, knowing what it can do, for me it is a "Must Have" tool.

I think you can install it on a 30 day trial. You will need to install iLok, which I balked at at first, but at the end of the day it has worked out okay (no hardware lock required). The danger of this, of course, is you may will be hooked yourself...

On my SoundCloud page I have a playlist that contains tracks by myself and others which feature Adaptiverb.

One track in particular uses a very simple arpeggio as its basis and I start of with Adaptiverb fully dry and then slowly take it to fully wet. So you can hear exactly what Adaptiverb is doing. What I then do, to get variation with the drone pad is I automate the cutoff and resonance of the arpeggio. So, there is no actual pad here, it is all Adaptiverb:-

This is a great foundation, but for me it needs to be developed with a lead voice or more ear candy.

Thanks for sharing.

Very pleasing sound -- is that main synth an OB-X?  The mix is well balanced -- everything flows nicely. I enjoyed the listen.

The main sound is FM-8, a really nice patch which inspired the track...hopefully one weekend I'll get time to continue with it!

I really liked this piece though it could benefit from a lead voice.  Loved the pulsating synth.  Which one was that?

The pulsating pad is a Kronos patch, can't remember which one off-hand though I'd better find out if I'm to continue :)

Sweet pad droney ambience with the synthy fizzy moving things.

I can hear bass lines, a lead guitar, and some funky drums!

But its good the way it is.

cheers,
-Tom
