The reason for your link not being available is that you have less than 25 post. This is to stop spam links being posted all new forum members are equally restricted. Best way to up the PC is to listen to other posts and comment or visit the CH forum and share in the verbal madness there. Your tune is quite pleasant though some here will struggle with the length. It would most likely work under a film or video as it is. It does sound quite thin here though. Keep em coming. Thanks for sharing.

Very creative writing. Just keep doing it. You may want to subsitute some Dimension orchestral sounds to get a warmer fuller sound on the strings. Once you really get into X3, you should use Melodyne to convert your electric guitar part to midi and then add a midi instrument which doubles your guitar using a different tone and then blend them. I can't tell what kind of gear/system you are using based on your non-signature. All the best.

Thanks guys. How do you mean thin? Other than Dim Pro, What plugins would you recommend for strings? Great idea for the use of Melodyne!

Sounds very reasonably good and builds nicely. Try some EQ on this between 469-579 and see if that helps out any. Interesting textures and instrumentation. Nice tune! Also, welcome to the forum. Be sure to listen and comment on others work even if it is to just say you enjoyed what you heard. Peace and Blessings, John

I really like the amount of space in the tune. It's really open. It reminds me of quiet jams with groups of friends. I think the composition is nice. The average volume is right on -13 dB measured with RME DigiCheck. Plenty of room for dynamics which is nice. It is a bit mantra like with the melodic themes. The note durations get very predictable. If I had a suggestion it might be to sound a little more lyrical. The composition as a whole is pretty and I listened. :-) https://soundcloud.com/russ-white/starlit-night-09-03-14 I'm posting the link for you.
StudioCat > I use Windows 10 and Sonar Platinum. I have a touch screen. I make some videos. This one shows how to do a physical loopback on the RME UCX to get many more equalizer nodes.

Welcome to the forums Gus! Nice experiment you recorded. This can be so much fun. It takes a while to get familiar with it all so take your time and don't be afraid to ask questions. Listen to what the others have posted and ask how and why they did what they did. This is a great place to learn!!!

Nice work Gus, I liked your choice of instruments and how you used them. It's 12.30am here and I was just in the mood for this. I thought the beginning and end were a little abrupt; maybe you could start the song simpler and build it more, just to add another layer of interest.

Hi Gus Nice, creative work and the playing is excellent. The mix lacks depth in my opinion - do you have a high cut filter on the master buss? - it's as though the whole bottom and middle has been cut out of it.

Many many thanks to all for all your kind words, and helpful suggestions. I've tweaked the eq as mentioned by John, and that's stopped the strange chorus sound that I was getting on the strings. Wayne, I did try and start more gentle, but unfortunately for me I find it hard not to add layers. I'm good at abru bayoubill, I've been getting involved with commenting on other peoples work. It's all good fun hearing completely different styles. daryl, Yes I did. I've been mixing with the VRM box and some ATHM50 cans, and I keep thinking that I've got a good mix until I hear it outside of Sonar. Too much bass and verb! So I've cut it back too much. I've tweaked that now. the mids and bass is now up a little on the master. Thanks again guys :)

That was nice. I like the overall open feel and slow changes, I think it works well. Mix-wise, the one thing that did occur to me, and this is completely personal preference, is that I'd like to hear this done with nylon string guitar for a rounder tone. And perhaps pushing everything back just a little with a bit more reverb/ambience for a "smoother" presentation. But the orchestration is nicely done. As a first SONAR project goes this is really good!

Thanks Steve, Well I only have a steel string ac guitar. I think you're right though, a nylon sound would be more haunting. I'll have a go at some blending verb across the mix. You should check out my other tune, It is more recent and less complicated. Thanks again.

I simply reject the premise on its face... I reject your reality and substitute my own. There is "no way" someone could post tunes without commenting on many other things by other people? It doesn't happen and you should consider such things before making such a non-sensical post. It doesn't happen! EVER!! Well, this could be an exception to the rule? Not what I expected... Orchestral? With guitar... Did not expect this at all. But I did enjoy it. Especially "a big orchestra..." I love a big orchestra, and it's a little dark too, which I also love. My only crit would be to use CC11 or whatever it is in your plug to control the vibrato? On individual tracks, and make it breath? It will help it sound less "MIDIsh" and more like an orchestra. Using volume envelopes, and controlling the vibrato, portamento, etc... Orchestra is "non-trivial..." And requires so much work, but I am a big fan of the orchestra.... Also, what to bring in and where? And what to bring out and where... Orchestra is non-trivial... It's not like a guitar, bass and drums mix.

Listening on laptop (so make of it what you will) the guitar is kinda buried in the 2:16 section. Good orchestration is not easy and I think you did pretty well overall.
