New to Sonar - can I perform an SI Bass using my midi keyboard?

Hi all, I've recently bought Sonar X1 Essential, and I'm finding it great fun. I have however, got a question. I have successfully performed a keyboard part using the library of bass and drums as a backing. I'm using an inexpensive M-audio 49 key keyboard. I'm now working on another piece, where I wanted to "perform" the Bass guitar using the SI Bass guitar sounds, and my M-Audio keyboard to play it on. But it won't make a sound with SI Bass sounds, although it works fine with SI Electric Pianos etc. Is it possible to do this - if not how would one perform an SI Bass part. I hope this is not too daft a question - thanks for any help.

Your keyboard should have octave keys so you can play down or up in the range of the instrument you are playing with.

I would imagine that there is some way of 'shifting' your keyboard's octaves up & down. Have a look at your keyboard manual.

That is assuming of course you have the routing to the Bass correctly set up, see this video for more info on that.

Thanks for the quick replies, guys. The M-Audio keyrig 49 keyboard I'm using has a couple of buttons on the lefthand side (each with an associated LED) for shifting the octave up and down. I've been all the way in both directions but not a peep out of the SI Bass- but if I load instruments from SI Strings or SI Electric Piano in the same project, it plays them fine, which makes me think my set-up is okay, and that its something else. Its a nuisance because its stopped me in my tracks from making further progress.

Well, I've no idea why the Midi controller wasn't working with the SI Bass and Drums but was fine with the SI Piano, but I started the project again from scratch and all is working fine. Works for me. :)

i find the midi a little squarly at times.sometimes a simple reset of the midi button or sometimes as simple as just hitting play then stop.
then give it a wirl...either way you will learn as time goes on theres a trick or few in the bag thatwill get you through your issue faster then starting all over again.good luck.
