New track (now new version)

Now I have put online a newer, hopefully better version of Malibu Mae(silly name, but I never come up with good ones for some reason). Comments still welcome and appreciated. Still not ready, but I will probably finish it at some later time.

This is my newest track.I mixed with my Grados as I don't have access to my monitors.I would welcome some comments. It is not ready but I felt a need to send something. There are 2 different choruses in it and the first one is accidentally a bit worse version of the chorus that I meant to put in. I am now in a place where I do not have access to a working computer but when I return I might put the other version online also to be listened to.

The mix sounds great to me...how you mix without monitors I have no idea. I would love to hear a vocal on this one. It would make a very nice pop song I would think.

That's a nice sound, reminds me of OMD in places. That top line synth melody gives it the feel of an instrumental version of a vocal - might be worth writing some lyrics for this, the melody is all there and strong enough.

    Sounds good to me.

You've obviously been listening the Grados long enough to train your ears to them. Those cans are notoriously bright and lack bottom, which tends to result in muddy, boomy mixes. But this piece exhibits a well-balanced spectrum to my ear.

It's perhaps a little quieter at the lower and upper extremes than what's typical for the genre, but then I find most contemporary electronic music annoyingly overstated under 60 Hz and over 8KHz. For my grumpy old ears at least, you've found the sweet spot.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

Thank you guys for the very nice comments and suggestions. I wish I knew someone who could sing this stuff but no such luck. I am glad that the mix sounds good, although I do not know why it is good. I do not know what OMD. I do not know how to make lyrics although I have only tried once. It was for a song that I meant to send to a song contest.

Thanks Tom. The contest was called Syksyn sävel and the songs that participated to it were easy listening type of music I think. There is lots of contest songs on Youtube if you are interested. The song contest was replaced by Popstars and then came Idols. I was not qualified to enter the contest as it was participate by invite. I forgot that rule, but I was not brave enough to enter any way. It was a silly dream that I would participate the contest.

@thegaltieribrothers: thank you for your very nice comment.
@Shawn: thanks for the comment. I agree, there should be more drums in it. It is not anybody's voice in the background. Instead there is a flute instrument there, but it should probably be louder.

This is lovely. Also takes me back to the classic 80's synth legends. Agree with other with regards to having some vocal's on top and Shawn is right about having some movement on the drums.
Mixed very well. nicely done. :)

Not much to add to the above - musically, a little more punch and variation in the drums is about all it needs IMO.   Really nice synth pop!  You definitely have a good ear for the genre.

Listened to this a couple of days ago but my ears were tired and it sound very much like something I had heard before that I decided I should come back and listen later.

Yes it has that very 80's synth vibe and as noted above it needs some development just to add some edge.

Very pleasant. I agree vocals would add much, in lieu of that the development and variations would give it a bit of build.

Thanks for the comments guys. John, if it sounds very familiar then it is bad news. If possible can you say if it was the verse or chorus that sounds familiar and also I would like to hear the name of the song it resembles if you remember it. Of course a song can sound a bit familiar but if it sounds too much familiar it can be tossed into the closest river.

I think it is as much the chord progression which I am hearing and unfortunately many songs have very similar chord progressions.  This is why it needs a more developed melody line or some other ear candy to centre the ears on.  If my furry brain can put a name to the tune then I will come back to you other than just remember in western notation there are only thirteen notes always a good excuse.

I especially liked the arpeggios around the 3:00 mark. Moves along nicely kakku...you made a decent mix even without monitors. I liked the idea of adding a few drum fills and maybe vox in places.. Nice track!
