New video - Glad You Came - Cover
Hey guys, I hope you're all well. I've not been on in a while, had a lot of work stuff going on and prep for the future. Anyway, this week I got a bit of time and put this music video/song together. It's a cover of the current UK Number 1. (Well I think it just got de-throned as the number 1 yesterday in fact). I'm not sure if the song is around in the US. If not, it's similar to my version but a much more 'dance/pop' style. As usual I played everything, sung, mixed and filmed/edited etc. I really hope you all enjoy it :) Here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=16xZLDijnwI Cheers, Chris.

Pretty cool tune. Had a nice Tears for Fears kind of vibe to it. I liked the way the bass/drums propelled the song forward without sounding obnoxious. The mix sounded great to me. I've never heard the tune but I mostly just listen to Eva Cassidy and Joan Osborne these days.

Hi Chris, you are obviously a very talented young "dude", can't say I'm a fan of the song but your talent shines through. Greetings, Rik

I use to have all those instruments also. Traded it all in (years ago) for just a synth. You do a excellent job on all of it, so it sounded fine to me. The mix - mmmmmmmmmmm...............for some reason I still like a bit more bass though. Now: can you play all those instruments at once?? (just some humor!) Fine job there!

@Chappel Cheers for the comments. It's not really my style of music but hopefully enough people will know the tune to get some passing 'traffic'. @Rik The song's hardly a timeless classic, but, it got to number 1 in the UK so there must be something to it, for the general public at least. The other thing is that I find people usually enjoy covers which aren't carbon copies of the original. As I say, it's a departure from my preferred 'listening' genre. @spacealf I did roll off about 3db of bass because I wanted the whole thing to cut a bit more. It was sounding a little boxy in my room if I'd left it. Maybe in a more accurate room I'd be able to get more accurate bass reproduction, as it is, I'm not confident in the room acoustics so I suppose I play it safe most of the time. I'm working on shredding with my toes ;) Thanks very much everyone for watching and sharing your thoughts. It's good to know my ears are pretty close and haven't completely died from the drumming yet! Chris.

You are terrific, Chris. The only nit is that the vocal sounds kinda weird, like super mono with the reverb is not working for me. And the snare is way too thin in comparison to the kick. I would like to see a bit more performance out of your video, rather than what looks like a filiming of the recording session, if ya know what I mean.

Cheers for the comments. James: There are two distinct vocal sounds in this. The intro and verse is straight down the middle and you're right there's a lot of reverb on it. In fact, at the beginning, there is a reversed reverb on the vocal. In the pre-chorus/chorus sections, the vocal is doubled and panned hard left and right, which probably emphasises the verses being dead centre. The idea was intentional, to give a bit of development, I suppose it's a matter of taste. The snare thing, is a strange one for me. I'm never happy with the snare sound I get at the moment, however, there is a LOT of bass drum in comparison. My thinking was that, although it's a 'rock' version of the song, I didn't want to stray too far from the 'dance/pop' roots so I pushed the kick right up there, I suppose the snare suffered but as I say, I'm not massively happy with my snare sounds at the moment. It seems your crits are aligning with the hesitations I have with this mix. I think performing for the camera is what I'm probably worst at. I've always been kind of uncomfortable in front of it. Maybe it's time to take a couple of acting classes!! Again (this goes for everyone) thanks you so much for taking the time to listen and respond to the video. I find this forum really insightful everytime I post a mix/video. So thank you all very much for that!! Cheers, Chris

You have talent. You should be comfortable in front of the camera sharing it with the world. A lot of musicians are lousy but have compensated for their lack of talent with oversized egos.

Once again KUDOS! I'm not a big fan on the song choice but performance is excellent. My only nit, lead vocals could come forward a smidge in the mix. LATER Kev

Great job again, Chris. I'm always impressed with your musicianship and videography. One minor crit....maybe don't wear a white t-shirt against a white back ground. Does that make me sound like your mother? lol
