New weirdness from X3 (solved)

I never use take lanes because they always mess me up. Today I opened a simple 2 track project with acoustic guitar and nothing else. Imagine my surprise when I see a take lane attached to each track. I didn't create them so I figure that Sonar was giving me one of it's little surprises. If I delete the take lane it deletes the original track. Odd and annoying, but there's more. I wanted to try out some tips that I've been given re. audio snap, but transients are no longer viewable as an option of either of the original tracks. They are viewable on one of the take lanes but not the other.

What happened?

You must be recording in COMP mode. Right click the recording button and switch to your mode of choice. Also, you can turn the lane view mode on and off on each track at the very bottom left. If you turn it off, you should then be able to see the transients in the main track.

P.S. This is not "weirdness" at all. It's operating as intended in that particular recording mode. I find comp mode to be an amazingly useful and powerful tool.

All audio is recorded into one or more take lanes (the audio has to go somewhere, right?). You choose whether to show the Take Lanes individually, or folded into the parent track, which looks and acts like a standard track.

...and just to add to Craig's response, if you delete that one Take Lane you are in fact deleting the only recording.

Ok, I get it now. The tracks were in comp mode. The reason I never thought about it, is that the tracks were recorded before there were take lanes. It was an X1 file and I always use overwrite mode when recording.

Designing and building amps is so much easier than working with Sonar. The rules of physics are pretty stable.
