Newb question, Pitch controller / Pitch Bend

Using X1 Essentials, coming from a reason background - How might I find and utilize some type of pitch bend function on a midi note without having to automate the pitch parameters within the VST (NI massive)?

Another forum I came across said I'd need some type of pitch modifying VST to route MASSIVE to in order to automate a pitch bend. true?

NOTE: my midi controller does not have a pitch bend wheel, which is why I'm looking to find another way to perform this operation.

Thank you!

In the Piano Roll View controller lanes can be added. One can be for pitch bend and you can draw them in. This would not be automation because its intrinsic to MIDI.   However I would get a MIDI controller keyboard with a pitch wheel because its way easier. Welcome to the forum.

thank you for the warm welcome and reply.

I launched it last night for the first time, read the literature and got off to a great start on many of the features, even in the essential.

In the PRV, the only lane I was able to see was the velocity, and marked with a little [+] button that would just add more and more velocity lanes, I was unable to find any that would modify the pitch. Maybe I'm lost as to where to find this feature.

I'm hoping that my understanding in this is right, correct me im wrong (open to any and all feedback), but am I able to modify the pitch via a pitch bend in a VST such as massive, razor, or reaktor as simple as I am used to in reason via pitch bend automation?

    Thanks!

also, new midi controller in the works, pay-day around the corner, but for now, eager to find the most simplified way in conducting a pitch bend on some of my notes.

To assign an Event Type to a lane
    1. Click the lane you wish to assign to a specific event type.
The lane appears darker than other lanes to indicate that it is the active lane.
    2. Click the Piano Roll view Edit menu and do one of the following:
    • To specify a new event type that doesn’t already exist in the track, choose New Value Type
and select the desired event type in the MIDI Event Type dialog.
    • To specify an event type that already exists in the track, select the event type from the Edit
    menu.
The name of the current edit type is displayed in the lane.

The above is from the manual page 675

If you have pitch already in the MIDI track it will be in a lane. The above is when you want to add that or another type controller.

Drawing it in is the simplest way to do it without a hardware wheel.

In piano roll go up to the Edit tab and select New Value Type and select the new type event you want to add data for.  It will add event types not currently in the MIDI file.  You can also change between event types from this list once it is available.

Thankfully in PDF form it is searchable. 1850 pages is a lot to hunt and peck through.
