Newbie Looking for advice

Thanx ahead of time for any time you give me:
Hi, I'm a personal trainer/indoor cyclist instructor who would like to try to compose and mix music that meets my exact needs. I've spent some time cutting, stretching and changing the volume of mp3 files, but that's it and I know that's nothing when I see what is out there, which is exactly what my problem is.
I'm lost as far as not knowing where to start and what products I should buy. I don't have recording capabilities, so I kneed something that will allow me to produce stuff from nothing. Please let me know what hardware and software you would recommed for starters and anything else you might like to add would be greatly appreciated.

Thanx, Rio >>
