Newbie Startup Probs

Hi,  I'm new to Cakewalk software and I'm having trouble getting this to work right.  I'm hopin someone here can please help me so I can get to recording with this new toy lol.

I'm using Vista 64 & after the initial install I dl'd the 4.0.5 patch.  When I can get the program to start up at all, the quick start menu comes up & I select new project.  After I choose a name and choose OK on the new project file screen nothin happens.  I choose add track and it gives me the new project file screen again.  It won't add tracks or switch views.    I go through this a few times, starting and restarting the program until it eventually gets to where it doesn't do anything when I try to start it up.  I tried to uninstall but it says I have an instance of it running, which I can't seem to find anywhere.   I was hoping maybe the patch was to blame and I could re-install without the patch and it would work correctly?

Thanks in advance for any & all help

If the program is "running somewhere" and you can't seem to shut it down, on Windows I would hit CNTRL/ALT/DLT, when the menu comes up (it might take multiple times to get it to come up, or never if the computer is frozen, although I give Vista some cred for eventually clearing up enough to allow you to regain control), select Task Manager, check under Processes.  The process name for GTRPro4 is CWGP.EXE.  Click  on it, then right click, then select "End Process".  That should kill it.

Also, don't forget to "Run as Administrator" when installing.  See "help" on your Vista or Win7 for instruction on how to do that.
