Newbie help with Soundmax audio card

Toshiba Sattellite laptop with a Soundmax audio card, the program plays already created sample files but fails to play the sound files I have created. The slider shows the file is playing but does not play any sound. Please leave me "how to's" with how to correct this problem. Thank you.

    under options /audio, make sure that the playback and record boxes contain the sound max as the option

    Also, check the drivers tab to make sure it is listed there.

    Use the MME drivers

    Then make sure that the sound card is listed as the midi input and that microsoft synth GS is the output driver.

    I'd Seize the day but i can't quite reach it!
