Newbie with Workflow Question on Quantitize, Midi or Audio, or?

I would like everyones opinion.

I like to workup new songs with the keyboard, often piano. When I have the song basically arranged I record the arrangement. Even when I use a click track or metronome my tempo varies and the measures don't line up. This gives me problems because the foundation of the song needs to solid to build on.

I need to fix this before building the rest of the tracks.  I need a quick and fast way, so the "tightening" chore does not disrupt the creative flow. Now my workflow does MAJORLY hold me back at this stage!!

Different things I've tried include tried include directly editing the midi data, quantitizing the midi and finally I tried recording the audio and trying to quantitize that (using melodyne to convert the audio back to midi)! Very time consuming and error prone.

None of these "trial" workflows seem to be the easy answer I was looking for.  Does anyone have any suggestions for making this a workflow that will take a midi and/or audio and tighten it up so I build a complete song around that now tight track?  What am I missing, other then to record the track perfectly the first time?  Thanks!

If recording MIDI and you don't like the quantise result try "Set Measure/Beat at Now" found in the project menu. Shift + M is the shortcut IIRC.

Basically set the now time to the note where you want the measure (and/or a particular beat) to be then press Shift + M. Set the measure/beat as required move to the next measure/bet point and repeat as required.

You can also use this method with audio but it's probably not as intuitive.
