Do you mean Antec P180, Ed? That's the case I have and yes it is nice and quiet.

I have a couple of gamer cases where you can mount 72 fans. You should hear them in an 12x10 room, ceramic tile, no drapes. Hearing them is not a problem.

I just bought a "Be Quiet Silent Base 600" case. I'll be moving my existing system to that case, probably next week after I get all the parts. I'll report back on how it works. I currently have a Corsair Carbide 500R case and its pretty good but not as quiet as I would like at times.

That was worth an internet search, I just had to see it. But I was disappointed. I believe you mean 72 mm fans ?

It's been my experience that the number and quality of fans will make more of a sound difference than your case (with maybe a few exceptions). I've used just about every make of modern case in my builds and they've all been pretty darn quiet... But I stick to the same basic cooling formula: Good-quality cpu fan, a quiet intake fan and a quiet outtake fan. That's it. And, of course, I make sure there are no obstructions (ie. good airflow) in the case. The PC sits two feet from me, and it's so quiet I always forget that it's there. And now with SSDs becoming more popular, there's even less reason for all the loud case fans.... unless you live somewhere warm with no A/C....

My latest DAW has an R4 case only the light tells me it is on very very very quite.

Which CPU you use must make some difference as well. Mine goes up to 130w which is pretty hot. Graphic card may also make noise if it's got fan/s. I keep things around 25-35 deg C. GPU's at 39c. Maybe it's time I blow out the fans and filters. I've got the huge XL version of the case in question (Fractal Design Define XL). Lots of room and it's quiet, but not silent. But then I have at least four fans going all the time, at low speed.

Update on the "Be Quiet Silent Base 600" case. I finished the install this morning. I give the case an F as it was the hardest install I've done, and I've built over 10 desktop PC's. Mounting the SSD's was a pain. Routing the power cables required the 24 pin and 8 pin motherboard cables to be routed on the "inside" of the case rather than through the grommets and back in. For being quiet, I'm getting some fan noise. I'm using the same Thermatake liquid cooling CPU cooler and "quiet" fans. I haven't isolated the fan noise yet, whether its the new Antec HCG 850 "quiet" power supply or the case fan. UPDATE: I found the noisy chassis fan(s) and reduced the max fan speed in the BIOS. The PC is now "quiet". But I still give it an F for assembly. The side panels are a hassle to get lined up so they can be closed and secured.

I really like this case. My DAW uses one. I have built two other computers into Fractal full tower cases (one is a game machine). I have large. clutzy hands so I needed the space to complete my builds. Plenty of room for drives with the cage system Fractal uses. I also had occasion to need a new front USB card in one system due to our dog becoming tangled in a plugged in headphone and nearly pulling the computer off its table (a very large dog!). I requested a quote for a new part and Fractal just mailed it to me - no charge! That is real service and I am loyal to them now. By the way, that is an excellent price on that case (from Newegg).

I have had a Fractal R4 case for about a year now. It is very quiet but I had to isolate two internal HD's and put a big book on the top to reduce vibration noise. I have the Deep Silence 5 from Nanoxia... awesome... they have a number, super innovative cages, wiring, fan/circulation system... Before choosing this I spent a week looking at everything awhile back and it was considered the "case to beat"... "As mentioned in Part 2, this is currently the silent case to beat in terms of thermal performance and acoustics. You'll find that it's very similar to the popular Fractal Design Define R4, except the doors split in two, there are two fan controllers, there's a pop-up sound-damping panel, and the fans have turned green with envy. The case performs better thanks to 3 included Nanoxia fans which are actually pretty good fans. The only downfall is the case's high price. Nearing the $130 mark, it can't quite capture the kind of audience the Define R4 can get." The Deap Silence 1 is adequate for most, size wise... http://www.nanoxiausa.com/products

Vastman, thanks for the case suggestion. I will check it out. Once I started building PCs, I realized how much fun and rewarding it could be to have just the PC you want/need. On my next build I may use a Deep Silence! (because we all know that it is golden)
