    Roland TR-808?

I don't know of any free VSTi's that look and operate like a TR-808, but if you own Sonar try the Step Sequencer, routed toward Session Drummer 3 (X1 and 8.5 producer have both). There are several TR-808 (and 909, 707) patches included with Session Drummer 3 and the Step Sequencer is a lot more powerful than the old pattern sequencer with the 808.

If you are talking about a different 808, please clarify.

Reason's Rebirth did a pretty good job.

I've used it freestanding and also found a MIDI export for it... but that was a long time ago.

I think Rebirth is fully legal freeware these days.

    Maybe give it a try?

I guess I thought that Cakewalk came with some good 808 libraries... was it the Roland Groove synth that had the actual samples included?

    Good Luck.

    best regards,
    mike

Actually, 808 samples/libraries in general, not the actual 808 program. I don't have that anymore. I was pertaining to the sounds of the 808. Like what Mike shared.

I'm primarily interested in the kicks!

Sorry for having such a unspecific post though!

    @Mike
    I'll look into rebirth

If it's the sounds you are after and you own Sonar, look at the samples included in the Session Drummer 3. Those samples are directly from Roland so they will not get better. They will be dry, but that's exactly how the machine was as well.

Rebirth was great - I remember that program. That won't give you the true samples, but a great replication. It also functions very similar to the TR-808. I'm not positive, but I think that needs to be re-wired. If you are 64 bit, it won't happen.

Don't fix it in the mix ... Fix it in the take!

I remember a while back, a really nice guy posted a link to his sample library of his 808. I downloaded it just to add some more sounds to my library and the work he had done was stunning in quality! I believe it was posted in the Sonar Producer forum here. You may have to search but it is well worth it. Not the X1 forum, just Producer. You may check rhythminmind.net. There are some very nice libraries over there. He even has some convolution files that can bee loaded into Perfect Space. A great collection of classic Lexicons, compressors, very old school stuff.

Vesper, here is the link to the 808 samples I was talking about. They are samples for Battery, but they can be loaded into any sampler that loads .wavs.http://forum.cakewalk.com...;high=808+drum+samples

Sorry, I just tryed the link and it is no longer available. There were some nice 808s over at Hollow Sun for free. I have a huge drum sample library I have collected over the years. If you can't find something on line, I will be happy to try to get them to you as a download or send you a disc in the mail. I will continue to see if I can find them for you.

http://www.gotchanoddin.com/mpc/free.htmlMaybe some of these will help. Like I said, I checked my library for 808s and I have so many from 6 MB up to 150MBs.

I posted this a few months back regarding a huge drum library of some 70 odd drum machines with about 3GB of content (I'm sure there's a bunch of 808's in there). The guy who put together all these drum kits only wanted a $10 or $15 donation to maintain the server for the downloads and the samples were royalty free to use.

I got it, but haven't had a chance to go through them (yet).
