No Audio Output since upgrading to X3 ... Help !!!
Hi all ... I have MIDI audio coming from my Yamaha Motif 8 into the sound card but no audio from any real time tracks that I have previously recorded on X2 ... meters are showing input and output but no sound ... tried to change preferences but nothing is working ... I am using an E-MU1616m sound card ... I have also upgraded from Win 8 64bit to Win 8.1 64bit ... I am using Sonar X3b Producer. Thanks in advance, Glenn

Inside of SONAR, make sure that your inputs are set correctly. If you are not getting any sound after record enabling your tracks then you might just need to make sure you actually have those tracks assigned to your sound card.

Hi polyphonix, Sorry to hear you are having an issue. I think the quickest solution here might be to give our tech support a call and have them help you out. It's probably the quickest way to resolve it since it's likely just a settings or set-up issue.

Let's go ahead and do the following: Go to Edit > Preferences > Audio > Configuration File and select [Reset Config to Defaults] Do you get any input now? -DG

I've had this happen and it turned out to be the Concrete Limiter on my master buss. Check yours and switch the Concrete Limiter off (if you have it on there).

polyphonix I am using an E-MU1616m sound card
Most likely the E-MU Patchmix session is not configured correctly. Open up Patchmix and check for signal on main bus, and make sure it's routed to the physical output that your monitoring system is connected to.

So you're saying audio from both the Motif being echoed by audio tracks in SONAR and audio from recorded tracks is visible in Patchmix meters but only the Motif audio is audible? I don't see how that could be possible. I have to think the Motif audio is being direct-monitored, which it will be unless those input channels are muted in Patchmix. Are they muted? And if Patchmix is showing signal from the recorded tracks, and you're not hearing it, that has to be a routing/hardware/firmware/driver issue with the 1616m. I'm inclined to suspect something is going on with the Win8 drivers from E-MU; are they beta?. All in all, it seems you have a marginally supportable environment with Win8 running on an XP-spec machine, and possibly beta interface drivers. Was X2 ever working with Win8 on this machine or is it still installed and working?

Yes, X2 was working with Win8 ... no beta ... now since X3 I have audio visible in Sonar meters with a MIDI file playback and audio visible in Patchwork meters but recorded tracks are only showing in Sonar Meters not Patchwork meters ...

Win 8?...not sure but have you tried (If it exists in win 8) the speaker icon on the lower right hand side of the screen? (win 7) to open this up, and check to see the levels and or mutes....Cause I did a update, which lowered the volumes in win 7 , and also had mystery Mutes happen . Hope something helps....I do not use win 8, so I have no idea of how the speaker or audio device manager works now...But if it is the same...check it out. Sir Les

Do you have a mixer applet for E-mu1616m?... I was using a M-audio 1814 and had similar issues, when I opened up the M-audio mixer, I had to re-select the output monitor button and set it to 1 and 2, seems It needed to be reselected...As something changed that aswell mysteriously. Took forever to figure it out. Not sure if that helps..or something posted up helps..soon... Sir Les

I think Microsift GM (general Midi) plays back/maps through the onboard sound card...?....and thus you hear playback of midi ok..as this is the default player?...perhaps? Win 8....I do not know for sure...But in my case, Selecting the audio device I want all tracks to play through even midi...to my Audio device of choice, This has to be default playback for me set as Allen and Health r16 ...in win 7. So not sure if this is any help...Just it works for me...and so I assume it may be likewise for you? When installing new drivers and updating ...things can be reset...Just trying to help.... Sir Les.

Are audio tracks routed to a Master bus that goes to Main Outs? Is there signal on Main Outs in the Console view? (you might have to drag the divider at the right-hand end to see them). Also, I'm still a little unclear on where these MIDI tracks reside, and what the sound source is. Hardware Motif keyboard synth playing internal MIDI tracks with output echoed through SONAR or MIDI in SONAR driving the Motif or MIDI in SONAR driving a soft synth or Motif direct-monitored through Patchmix or...? It's really difficult to troubleshoot this kind of thing remotely without very specific routing and Sonar and Patchmix routing details. Maybe a screenshot of Patchmix would help.

Motif is playing back MIDI files to and from Sonar and is plugged L and R into back of E-MU1616m ... I took snapshots of default input and output settings on Patchmix but can't upload them here ... and yes, I have the Console view expanded ...
