No Audio stream from importing .mov
I have an ADR client right now. We imported the scene from his .mov file, but no audio is showing up in SONAR. I can play the scene in the Quicktime player and audio is there. Can anyone shed some light on this? Thanks!

In Quicktime (pro only maybe) with your file open, you can go to FILE, then EXPORT TO WAVE, point to the audio folder of choice and you have a wave file. OR for direct import with the video into Sonar, use WinnFF (free) (cake recommended to me) to convert to AVI. Then when you import into Sonar it should give the option to import the audio as well. Once you're done, you can then export the audio, then cut original audio from the original video (in Quicktime pro) and insert your newly exported audio and save as a new video. Or just give the wavs back to the video prod.

What a laborious task for such a very simple job! I think Cakewalk should work on this issue for the upcoming upgrades. It is hard to believe! And what about the audio compression when using WinFF? does it preserve the audio quality or compress it to .mp3 format 128 k default quality of most transcoders? I work with soundtracks and it is a very important function neglected by Cakewalk experts, I think. Well that´s life.

Hi Swamptooth, Could you be more specific please? the popup appears during Sonar installation or when importing .mov files? I can import .mov files into Sonar projects but it doesn`t come with the audio track! only the video shows up. I really appreciate if you can give us some more information about this issue. Thank you very much. Best regads

strange. if youre running 32 bit sonar it should import fine. surprised people still use .mov files.

In your opinion, when you have a DVD (vob) file to what Sonar compatible video format would you convert it to? I convert it to .wmv but the movie director that works with Mac doesn`t have that option. So he brings me the video in .mov files in order to use it. There is an video convertion freeware program called FormatFactory that converts from .mov to .wmv but I think it is a too long journey conversion proccess in order to begin working in Sonar. Is Sonar X2 better in that subject? thx

i would convert to the highest quality avi i could. vobs are just a container for mpeg files http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VOB so determining the encoding of the original files in the vob and then reading that format without recompression would be best. "sometimes you can just rename them .mpeg files" http://forums.adobe.com/thread/464549 what software does your director use? you can export as avi from final cut pro and quicktime for sure.

Yes, I am affraid of too much compressiom degrading the audio quality for sure. Thank you very much Swamptooth. I think he uses Final Cut, but I am not sure. I will ask him. Since I know nothing of Mac I can`t help him very much. Thx
