No CW/Gibson synergies?
It's been over three years since Gibson bought Cakewalk (feels like just yesterday). And yet, I fail to see any working synergy within the company.
For instance, there's no affordable all-in-one studio bundle that the likes of Steinberg, Focusrite, and Presonus offer (headphones, interface, condenser mic, lite DAW). Back in the day, Roland at least shipped Sonar LE with its interfaces. Gibson does not produce interfaces, but one could easily see Sonar LE being distributed with KRK monitors as a kind of gateway drug. Alas, the last version of Sonar LE to be shipped was X3.
I was also surprised to learn that Gibson owns Baldwin Piano, allowing for the possibility of an officially branded deep-sampled instrument based on the Rapture Pro platform. This possibility too has not been exploited.
So while Cakewalk itself has made significant strides in the past three years, I can't help but conclude that the acquisition has not made Gibson more than the sum of its parts. What am I missing?
